As some of you know, I’ve put together a nice matched mini set of 1909 cents in first generation holders:
I have not added a coin to this for quite some time - until today!

My Collection of Old Holders
Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
Well, I hate to say it ...... 3rd generation holders.
That is some true collector stuff right there. How cool and special, I wonder if it is completable?

Probably not in the same grade
That is a great looking set of 1909's.
Thanks for sharing it.

Nice set as it stands but if completeness is what you are striving for in the 1909 Lincolns, you need 1909 V.D.B. DDOBV FS-1101. The first Lincoln cent double die obverse.

That's one heck of a group!

Homie don’t do die varieties
@tradedollarnut
You could buy that guys hoard of PR vdb’s. How big was it 150 or so. He might have a rattler or two. In The bunch😃

Good decision.

...amazing, they all look so GEM together, Congratulations!
It's all about what the people want...
You might not be able to find 1909 V.D.B. DDOBV FS-1101 in the kind of holder the rest of your 1909 cent set is encapsulated in anyway. My FS-1101 1909 V.D.B. is in ANACS second generation holder.

But the stickers aren't matched.
Thank you for sharing!
Super cool niche..
Fwiw, you can really improve the look of the holders with Meguiars PlastX…
I got a pocket full of rattlers and my homies do too...
That's a real nice 1909-S IHC. A coin with over 40 likes from viewers here is not to be sneered at.
I once owned a 1907 IHC that looked a real lot like TDN's slabbed '09-S Indian. Came back from grading as having "questionable color."
Disappointed for sure, but life goes on. I wrote my 1907 IHC TPG grading experience off as "questionable grading."

Perhaps this thread will bring a rattler PF VDB out of hiding. Cool set and the hunt must be fun.
Talk about “the thrill of the hunt”, your fabulous set is just that! Nicely done!

My 1866 Philly Mint Set
That set fires up my mimetic desire. Superb!
LOL! I remember when you started this set, like FIFTEEN YEARS AGO!!! I sent you my OGH PR65RB VDB and you passed because the back was too brown. Nice to see it coming along, and that you’re sticking to rattlers!

Coolest thing I’ve seen this week by a long shot.
Smitten with DBLCs.
Lovely coins! Do you value the CAC or PQ sticker more?
Super cool. Looks like the holders would benefit from some Novus polish -- rattlers tend to polish up with it very nicely.
I’m tempted to pull the PQ sticker off as it’s worthless to me …but honestly in this instance I don’t care about the CAC sticker much either. It’s not like I can pick and choose the coins that I’m acquiring- this truly is a holder collection
Omg! Eureka!
Fantastic set you are assembling. The hunt is very satisfying, especially when you reach and cross the finish line.
Thanks for sharing this project with the Forums.
If one likes order and uniformity rotated coins in rattler holders would be annoying. I would want to be able to have the coins all aligned the same, positioned like this:
OMG, so now just missing the Indianhead and VDB proofs? cool set
Good for you Bruce! You are a true collector.
I need this one to still be in this holder. The cert is still active

WTG! Awesome pickup!!
And the list gets shorter!

The VDBs are die varieties!
But they are the nice Redbook, naked eye kind.
(I consider everything beyond date-mintmark and "major" design type like Indian/Lincoln to be a die variety).
But "major" can be defined in many different ways, of course.
Congratulations, Bruce. I presume that since the coin’s sideways in the holder, you’ll have it reholdered so it can sit straight.

I might send it back because of the holder chip. Lol
That makes two excellent reasons for a reholder.😀

David Hall said you can tap those on the long side to rotate the coins in the slab. Maybe someone tapped too hard on the end and chipped it.
I wonder if someone from Heritage could help you track down the proof Indianhead, since it went through their sale a little over 20 years ago.
The '09-S is an S / Horiz. S. The first of the two in RB is an '09-S VDB.
A Barber Quartet is made up of Nickels, Dimes, Quarters, and Halves.
I wondered the same thing and coincidentally, someone from Heritage checked on that. Unfortunately, the search led to sad news. The coin appeared in a later auction, no longer in the old holder. @tradedollarnut, I'm sorry about this - I was really hoping that I could find a way to help you get the coin.
