"The Year of the Cat" - Seated Halves Added in 2023

Thought I'd share a picture of one of my favorite albums from 1976. If you're of a certain age, you might remember this mellow music from Al Stewart.

I bought many coins in 2023 and one of my ongoing projects is to build a nice seated half collection. I know this is a very long journey and may never be finished. However, as a retrospective of 2023, I'm going to post pictures of coins that were added to this project during the year. Hope you enjoy!

    Catbert,

These are a great group of seated halves you have started. I appreciate the "placeholder" moniker - every one of us that is putting together a set can't resist one or two.

Impressive Buddy! Very beautiful coins, and I love the focus on originality! A daunting set to say the least!

Did someone say CAT!?!?! 🙀 😳

    Really nice coins! 👍

Always liked that song and album. 'On The Border' is to my mind an overlooked song from the album.
Those are some exceptional halves. The color on the 40 and 74 must be a treat in hand.
Congratulations on your 2023 progress on your set.

Well done Catbert, some very nice eye candy for sure

What an amazing set you have put together in such a short period of time! You have succeeded marvelously in adding Coins that all possess wonderful eye appeal! I truly enjoyed viewing them and I hope to continue to follow your progress! Yes, I remember the song from when I was very young. Great tune.

Absolutely gorgeous group of wholesome and original halves, i think the 44 that you almost forgot is my favorite. Cheers to a great year of acquisitions 🥂, and may 2024 treat us equally as well!

Fitting that JBN checked in. His set of seated halves were one of the first things I thought of when I saw Catbert’s thread.

What an amazing run of gorgeous halves- wow!

As for the album, I’m old enough that I remember hearing the ads for it during the King Biscuit Flour Hour show on Sunday nights on FM radio….while driving in my car!

That album cover has coins with cat heads on them.

Nice coins! I like the 77-S (hammered. nice toning), 57-O, 52-O (mysterious with splashes of color), and 58-P with the vivid color.

Very, very nice! I love the variety of conditions, nice to be able to see beautiful coins at all levels, especially for such a big set.

@Catbert fantastic additions to your set, love that 1840. For those of us that collect this series, especially in circulated choice/above average eye appeal, these are getting much more difficult to locate. My hats off to you and best of wishes in 2024.

I went to see Al Stewart at an outdoor concert in Steamboat Springs, Colorado and he got miffed at the crowd because people kept asking for him to play Year of the Cat while he was trying to introduce some new compositions.

Great bunch of Seated Halves. The good ones are getting harder and harder to find.

  • ElmerFusterpuckElmerFusterpuck Posts: 4,723 ✭✭✭✭✭

That's an awesome group, especially like that 1888. I was fortunate to add a 55-S and 57-S to my seated half collection this year. The good stuff is truly hard to find.

Very nice additions Catbert! Love Al Stewart's Year of the Cat, and Time Passages, good memories.

Although I prefer the S minted early halves, I like many of yours Sir. I do not understand how the 1845 O is only "45" when some of the others (eg 1849 O) are graded higher but do not have the look. Nice pickup....I got a grand total of TWO in the last year, so putting us a bit to shame.
    Nice job!!!

@Catbert - You had a fabulous year sir! Beautiful coins in a great series that is much tougher than folks realize. <3 your 39 the most!

Very nice! Seated halves might just be my biggest focus this year. I've always appreciated them and only own the two in my type set album.

Wonderful group Cat! I knew you were having a banner year but seeing them all together is really special.

Do you have a favorite? I like a lot of them, a lot, but that '65 is mouthwatering.

Really tough Pursuit. There are several favorites in that group but I’d say the most charming is the lowly 1840 due to the subtle colors!

Thanks to all for the comments. Original halves are tough to find and I’m guessing one of the reasons is that the specialist collectors have many duplicates.
