Going to FUN for the 1st time

Finally have the time and funds to attend the FUN show. Hope to see a bunch of cool coins and meet some fellow CU members.

    Sorry I’ll miss you. I won’t be attending 2024.

2023 was fun at FUN. I did a long semi-live walkabout report there, with lots of pics.

You can meet me easily if you attend the presentation on counterfeits and slabbed coins at 11:45 on Thursday. The topic covers U.S. coins, but if the bad guys start putting counterfeit foreign and ancient coins in counterfeit slabs, the concept will be the same.

There is a nice foreign and ancient coin area at FUN, but I imagine it’s nothing like the New York International show. I have never attended that one. I met a British dealer, Sovereign Numismatics at the 2020 show and have done a fair amount of business with them since. Unfortunately they have not set up at any subsequent FUN shows.

I think that the Winter FUN convention is the best show of the year.

Retired dealer and avid collector of U.S. type coins, 19th century presidential campaign medalets and selected medals. In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

They are already doing this, especially with Chinese coins. Some are actually rather deceptive

So how was it? I went last couple years and took a day just to walk the entire bourse, see the exhibits and view some Heritage lots.

    Did you buy anything?

Excerpts from a post on another site:

FUN was fun, pun intended. Got there for opening on Thursday and Friday. The waiting area was packed both days. The bourse was 12 rows wide + about 600 dealer tables. Easily the largest show I've attended. Morgan dollars and US gold all over the place. Still, I asked at each table for Canadian material. Not much available, what was was generally overpriced. I did find a dealer selling silver maples at $25US each and bought the 22 pcs he had left. Also bought a few coins to be listed on eBay. Picked up a Newfie 1876-H 10c in a PCGS F15 holder for my Registry set. Bought 2x 1858 cents just because.

Dropped off some tokens with NGC and some decimals for variety attribution (corrections) with PCGS.

My last purchase was this 1858 10c. It has a distinctive dot above the 0. Not listed in the Charlton variety section nor on Coins and Canada site. Adding it to my oddities collection.
