Legends Auctions is shutting down☹️

I was just told this morning that the auction company will be shut down. And my consignments returned to me. I am very saddened by this news as they were just outstanding to work with. I will miss their wonderful photos, their quick payments on consignments and their excellent results they got for me. Jessica is absolutely the best I have worked with in the auction realm and hopefully someone snaps her up.

where did you hear this? just curious?
From Jessica
This is not reflected anywhere on their website????
What???
I just sent Jess an email to corroborate this, if this is true that really stinks. LRCA was a pleasure to work with. Will update when I hear back.

ugh that's terrible!

I hope this isn’t true. I have bought and through them with great outcomes.

They did specifically mention you as the problem.
This is unfortunate news and during the Holiday time. Wonder if tdn will post concerning this.

I have never bought or sold a single coin from Legend or their auctions so it is of no consequence to me, sounds like it will be unfortunate for a few here.

Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
I really like their auctions-
Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.
I heard that they were good, and looked at a lot of their items, it's sad if it's true,
They always had a wonderful selection of gorgeous Coins.
I bought my 1937S PCGS 66 CAC Walker from them. Outstanding strike and color.
This is sad news if true… change is the only constant. 😟🙁

Looks like LRCA is indeed closing, but Legend Numismatics isn't going anywhere per Laura's feedback.
True- confirmed by Laura in the CAC Forum

My only Legend Auction purchase was in their Central States auction this year.
I had a very good customer experience.
Looking for Top Pop Mercury Dime Varieties & High Grade Mercury Dime Toners.
Ok just their great auction house will be shutting down unfortunately but Legend Numismatics will remain open, thank goodness
Wow, too bad ... but I'm happy to hear Laura is doing better.

Sad news.

Only bought one coin, but looked through each auction. Hate losing venues to search for coins.
Sad ... their smaller and not as frequent auctions felt a more selective showcase for consignors and buyers. The smaller buyers fee's were a nice touch, however, I really will miss the smaller bid increments ... unlike Heritage and Stacks, using those one time split bid can be a kiss of death as they can send a signal you maybe out of steam. I have lost many a bids when I used a split bid, similarly I won when someone else use them.
Their service was very responsive and personal ( much like GC).
I will miss the option of this fine auction house .

I’ll certainly miss some of the auction descriptions and colorful names given to some of the coins. 😢 Now the million dollar question: Is that neutron microscope for sale? 😈
On a serious note, I’m happy Laura appears to be healing and recovering well.
Their weekly auctions on Hibid was rather ambitious, sad to see them close.
This is very sad news. They had great auctions and I enjoyed reading the lot descriptions.
I hope their auction archives website will stay online, either by Legend or another organization.
This is sad news. They were a pleasure to work with; Jessica was top notch! I liked the way they ran their auctions, the photos, the descriptions, all of it. Will surely miss them & all they did for me (& all of us for that matter).

Sorry to hear that. I have bought a few coins from Laura but never able to reach high enough to win one in the auctions.
I hope the best for the employees that find themselves out of work heading into the new year.

What a shame but I'm glad to hear she is doing well.

I guess I will be on Great Collections more!
Good riddance. In this business one things for certain, the peddlers of dreck will come and go. RGDS!
The whole worlds off its rocker, buy Gold™.
Seriously? 🙄

Can you explain further? Legend is generally known for having VERY high quality coins.

LOL someone just above might not be a Laura fan. Their auctions were probably more than what Laura felt comfortable managing in addition to their rare coin biz. Hope the auction staff can find similar and even better jobs (if they wish to) very soon!
Someone is holding a very big grudge.
How's that saying go?..........One man's dreck is another man's treasure.
Yup, :roll completely Buh-bi. THKS!
The whole worlds off its rocker, buy Gold™.
Maybe that was the problem,,,,,, selling the drek could have substantially helped their bottom line.
LRCA had been a terrific auction company with superb catalogs and great people. Jessica is awesome. Tough with all the solid competition for boutique firms to thrive. I've had great experiences with both Laura and Bruce at LRCA and Laura and George and Jose at Legend Numismatics. They've help me obtain many, many important coins over the years. I wish Laura continued good health and look forward to doing business with "the other" Legend.
They had really nice stuff.
Never heard of LRCA
Never bought a coin from LRCA.
The closing brought quite a bit of publicity to them, that might have been needed before they closed?
Bought around 20 coins over the years. Always nice coins and great service. They will be missed.
Surprising news. It's interesting how they started doing weekly auctions not that long ago and now are shutting it all down. I enjoyed their auctions over the last few years and came out of it with a few items.
October 10, 2012 was their first auction under Legend-Morphy. Some of my most treasured coins have been purchased through LRCA.
Anyone think this is the start of a downturn in the coin market?
Doesn’t something have to be the first domino in the line?
It could be. They are a big domino to fall too.
Terrible, terrible news. What a truly wonderful group of people to do business with (and, particularly at the Vegas shows, to just hang out)… I suspect their costs, reasonable fees (which undoubtedly were reduced for many of their consignors) simply didn’t allow them to compete with a low-overhead firm like GreatCollections. Lots of tough blows for Laura (and staff) in 2023. Hope for only good in the coming year!
Perhaps, but Laura has been very open about her chronic and serious health issues that recently resulted in a (thus far) successful kidney transplant. That isn't child's play, and if you are running the sort of far flung numismatic empire she has her hands in then it might be a good time to scale back for her longterm health.
