New CBH added to my young set (** 2nd coin added**)

This is an add on to @pursuitofliberty recent thread. It was a wild few days. I have added some coins I never thought I would be given the chance to own and protect. I could go the next year without any newps and still be totally satisfied. When all was said and done, this was a "mic drop moment" for me. I thought of retiring on the spot and riding off into the sunset

At first I thought being told to have my checkbook ready and loaded was just banter as @pursuitofliberty and I have been known to go back and forth with a little humor/fun. Well, in the end, it took two loaded checkbooks and then some

I thought I would start out showing the oldest Lady added (1808-104). I won't have her in hand for a while but thought I would post it while Todd had the other thread active. I was going to do a GTG but don't have the coin in hand and don't have a slab shot to prove what she is. Maybe I will do that once the coin arrives early next year. I can't keep you from guessing though

This is just one of many outstanding coins that @lkeigwin made available. Those attending FUN can see many more. I HAD to own this one the second I saw it. The colors and evenness of toning, the condition and lack of any distracting marks, the detail remaining. It was a WOW coin for me. I hope you enjoy. The outstanding photos are from @lkeigwin .

As I have said before, I am very lucky and grateful to have found Todd on these boards. He messaged me back in September after a comment I made about one of his amazing coins. It has resulted in a very unexpected friendship (well up until I bought a few things he wanted, now I am in the doghouse).

Awesome write up. Sounds like a great adventure. I really do enjoy seeing other members so happy about their acquisitions. I know that same feeling myself. The joy of collecting!

I saw this thread this morning and put my likes in, but honestly, there is a LOT more to Tom's story than he is posting ... maybe more even than there is to mine.

I hope he keeps this thread alive with some of the absolutely fantastic purchases he made, maybe showing an example here and there over the Holidays and into the New Year. he certainly has some sparkle and some cheer in there.

While in many ways, I am absolutely jealous (and even a little bummed I didn't buy more and wait a few days longer before making the call), I am happy for him, and for @lkeigwin with all the sales.

As I have gotten to know Tom over the last few months, he seems very enamored with he series and the history, and I think he will make a great custodian of these fine treasures. I sure hope so, or I will have to hunt him down and rescind the friendship in person.

Until then, I figure every time we're together, he has the tab.

Well done Tom, Shes a beauty! Gotta bring a few of your favorites to Central States next year so I can see them. Glad you forged a connection with Todd, he's one of the most knowledgeable and wise collectors I've encountered from these boards.

Thanks @DeplorableDan I will do that for sure. You will see that I acquired some outstanding coins to care for. I will be posting a few more over the next week or so.

A tiny bit jealous but happy for you and Todd. Only one check left in my checkbook at the moment and it has Todd's name on it . Beautiful addition and look forward to seeing what else you picked up!

I thought it would make sense to follow the oldest CBH that I purchased (the 08-104 above) with the youngest CBH (33-102).

This one caught my eye and I can't wait until I see the coin under light. I am still new at reading luster from photos. I am hoping this coin will help with that education. The fields look superb and the details are all there.

Maybe I will do a GTG on this one as well (once I have the slab to back it up). I feel very lucky to be the current caretaker of this CBH. One 2.5 hour phone call changed the entire look of my very young CBH collection.

Oh man, I REALLY liked that coin!

If that's not original, I don't know what is. It still has kraft paper residue around the stars, and had I not already had the DM, it would NOT be yours.

I was very fortunate that you called me and said it should be in my collection @pursuitofliberty

I'm going to update my thread as well, but to anybody who reads this, I want everyone to know that my "complaining" about @pcgscacgold and @Pnies20 sniping me was all in good fun.

They both got some great coins, and I was busting their balls about jumping in and taking some coins I really loved too, because, well ... I could.

The reality is just that none of us can own everything, and no one can own anything forever.

I know where these coins are and hopefully I'll have the first chance to buy them if I decide that I wish I would have had them in my set ... or if they decide to sell them.

And they both know, along with several other people that might read this thread, that if I decide to part with things, I'm going to try to keep them amongst friends. Just like @lkeigwin did for me.

That's a big part about what this hobby is anyway ... the comradery amd the friendships ... at least for me.
