WE fool ourselves with the pop 1 assumption since this assumes every coin has been submitted to a tpg and designation has been requested each and every time and there are zero duplicate submissions. I don't know how many times I assumed I had a pop 1 only to later learn that there where more in strong or weak hands just not yet submitted at that moment in time
or designation wasn't put on the slab. All I can warn is don't pay a crazy amount unless the pop is truly very tiny.
I'm about to take re-possession of the 1892 10C Repunched Date, FS-301, AU58 PCGS. (FS-008.3) PCGS Population: (1/0 and 0/0+). NGC Census: (0/0 and 0/0+).

Not top pop. I kind of discovered that variety. Its history is confusing at VAMworld. The VAM-25 was discovered by, I think, Bill Fivaz back in the 70s. I sent Leroy an MS65DMPL of it with clash transfer of the motto in the hair vee channel and noted the chip on Liberty's face. He wasn't sure, at the time, that the die pair was the same as VAM-25. So he listed it as VAM-1E. I got with Jeff Oxman and showed they were the same die pair that clashed and was remediated, but the transfer in the channel was not. So it was changed to VAM-25A (which is what yours would be, but PCGS does the states all as VAM-25). Later a couple unremediated states of the clash were found and catalogued as 25B and 25C.

1870 1C “S-1” PCGS 65RB. Cherrypicker’s shows this as FS-101.
Lots of RD in gorgeous shades.

I was bidding on that one too. One of maybe three I’d have kept going on if I had known how the rest of the auction would turn out!

Tough 3* variety. Lots of RD under the patina, making this a good case for the RB designation. RPD in the 8 & under the 9 in the date. Very cool!

Pleased to pick this one up tonight. Survival estimate of 42 in all grades. 1/0 in PCGS PL. Figure I can't go too wrong picking up coins like this.
So far, the only one known: DDR and clashed. There should certainly be others out there.
