    I'll give you a tip.
It's definetly PL in my opinion. I have an 85-O PL and it's a match but it did not receive the PL designation (huge disappointment that leaves me scratching my head).

    66 and fantastic!

Beautiful coin. Going with 66 as my guess. The couple of small scuffs / dings in front of Liberty's nose and mouth, the rim ding on the reverse at 3 o'clock, and what could be a small fingerprint near the date on the obverse likely holds it back from 67 IMO.

  • gumby1234gumby1234 Posts: 5,591 ✭✭✭✭✭

66 or 66+ depending on when graded.

Prooflike depends on how deep the mirrors go. It may be close but not deep enough. It also has to be bothe sides.

I’ve got a 66 and yours is much nicer!
    I’m thinking 67+

Great looking coin with some lovely cameo!

No point in continuing with the pain. Coin is severely undergraded. I wouldn't have had such high expectations for it. I thought it was minimum a 66 and still do.

Wow, that was unexpected. Didn't vote but thought 66. Do you think the fingerprint on obverse knocked it down.

If you download the full sized image from the TrueView page and enlarge you are able to see more contact marks. ;)

I tried to upload it here but my computer or the forum software is reducing the size of the image. :/

Sorry! Late to the party. I looked up the full res image. By image alone it's still, by far, the best "65" I have seen. I would think 66+. Nice and a definite keeper.

I did and blew it up 400 percent on my 40inch. Min 66plus IMO.

So now you know how I feel. I submitted 8 coins using my vouchers. I am not happy. I focus on Morgan's. I've come to know them pretty well. I'm no professional but I have seen enough and own enough to know what's what. I'll just leave it at that.

    Here's another 1885-O I own that's PL. It's also a 65.
Just doesn't add up in my mind.

What grading tier did you submit it under? Send it back in for reconsideration and see what happens.

I used my membership vouchers. I'm not even going to talk about the other 7 Morgan's.
I may send a few back for reconsideration but you know that cost money too.
    I'm beside myself today.

That sounds like a better idea.
Man I couldn't believe it when I saw the grades. I felt like I had a service done by someone who doesn't like me and I have no idea who grades for pcgs.

I talked to PCGS on the phone. Honestly it's a waste of time. They don't explain. You talk to a customer service representative not a grader. No chance of an explanation. No chance.

Well unfortunately u paid for an opinion and received it, now I would send it to CAC and see if they can give it the gold

  • FlyingAlFlyingAl Posts: 3,519 ✭✭✭✭✭

I think it's close to a 67, without the reverse rim ding.

They may have netted it rather than detailing it for that.

Ahh I missed that rim ding with my first guess, that could be the culprit.

You can send all the photos in the world they will not reach the graders. You might feel better but it is a useless thing to do.

Then tell them to upgrade their photos for grading because those are the pics for Ms 66 on their own website that they use to show just what they expect for the grade.

I see some issues on the good pic

Cuts left obverse field and what appears to be thumbing to the right of the date

I have no dog in the fight, just pointing out that wasting your (or anyone's) time sending photos is a useless exercise. Again you might feel better but it won't change anything. TPG's do not have grading standards, they hand out opinions, and opinions can and do change with the wind.
