Denver Coin Expo report from today...Enjoyed!

I wasn't able to go Thursday due to work. I went yesterday for about an hour during my lunch break to drop off a couple coins at ANACS for my friend who couldn't attend but didn't want to waste the 2 free ANACS coupons on her postcard.
I stopped at Dan Carr's table and was loving on some silvers he just minted that have a the beautiful Colombian Half Dollar design with the ship and globes. He told me he minted them only a day ago.
Today I went for a few hours. Got there a few minutes before they opened and there were already 30 or so folks waiting to get in.
It was pretty much packed the whole time I was there. There were quite a few dealers.
Last year I remember seeing a small handful of folks who had very modern selections included on their tables, such as American Women Quarters, Newer Mint Rolls, and America The Beautiful Quarters. Other than collecting books I don't think I saw any very modern stuff other than bullion rounds and products.
First I brought 11 coins to ANACS to get their 10 or more deal and use my own 2 free coupons on the Expo invite postcard.
I'm always on the hunt for rolls all sorts. I found one dealer who had a handful of BU 1964 halves in original wrappers but a couple of them had clearly been re-crimped and the prices for the rolls were far too high in my opinion with a big no to any negotiations.
I did manage to grab a nice original roll of Bicentennial Halves for a few bucks over face value right after the dealer bought it from someone else.
Made it a point to stop by the Coin Geek's table https://www.youtube.com/@TheCoinGeek and meet Ben who's a fellow CoinTuber. Had some excellent conversation with Ben about life the universe and everything. I've got to say he's a seriously swell fella and was more than generous with his time.
I also bought an absolutely lovely Morgan from Ben https://www.oldpueblocoin.com/ in an older holder. I'm a sucker for the perimiter toning, especially when it's this lovely rosey brownish.
Also...Ben now has one of those Bronco's coins from me too
Stopped at Classic Kid Coins https://www.instagram.com/classickidcoins/ and spoke with Payton for a few. Dan Carr's new coin came up in conversation and Payton showed me the dealer's gift for this show, it's Dan's new coin with the Columbian Half Dollar design in an ANACS holder...what an awesome gift for the attending dealers!
I also spent a little time at West Coast Coins table westcoastcoinsoregon.com speaking with Revick...they had easily the largest selection of S VDBs I've ever seen. A bunch of them PCGS and a bunch in NGCs. I didn't leave with one but these are on my mind now lol.
My almost purchase for today was this Nickel struck on a penny planchet...almost!
I spent a good amount of time at the Expo todayand visited pretty much every table...a good time was had by me and I'm guessing most of the visitors, there were a lot of smiles and as usual good Colorado vibes all about.

Sounds like it was a great show!

Dan bought a bunch of columbian halves from a dealer yesterday to mint more of the show medal. I'd not been to this show in a year and was really happy to finally make it again. I was there Thursday afternoon and Friday.
Thanks for the great report, @Kurisu. Ben is the best. He just texted me pictures of a stunning Pan Pac Octagonal. I’m hoping to attend his show in Tucson in January.

Edited to add I also had a chance meeting with Daniel at a Ft Collins coin store a few years ago. He took the time to help me pick out a nice raw 1884-S Morgan. Great guy and lots of interesting backstories.
Thanks for the show report, sounds like you had a great time!

Attended Wednesday, Thursday and Friday morning. Good show with a lot of "buzz".

I’ve been to this show off and on the last few years and this one was the best in my opinion. Both in terms of the crowds and the coins offered.
Thanks for mentioning him, he did love the reports![ ](https://forums.collectors.com/resources/emoji/smiley.png)
Nope, blast white at both ends. Ricko would've love that too![ ](https://forums.collectors.com/resources/emoji/blush.png)

It was a fun show. Met a few forum members and folks I had done business with before.
Picked up a large commissioned product from Daniel Carr (keeping it under wraps until FUN in January) and enjoyed a couple brief conversations with him. Flipped the entire commission to ANACS. Saved from shlepping back on the plane and can move it graded rather than raw, saving many that additional step.
Got a couple rare bust dollars. One was prearranged with the seller, another dealer who was also set up at the show (and had another really nice piece to drool over). Saved him the shipping cost, which would have had high insurance. The other was an interesting one. It is a Die State I of the 1799 BB-161. Unknown to even Bowers. I had looked for one for some time. It needed to be expertly distinguished from a garden variety BB-160, and was definitely a BB-161. The coin was in a Stacks sale I was bidding. After winning a prior lot in the sequence, I entered the win in my spreadsheet. Turning back to bidding, that BB-161 was closing and my bid didn't make it. The winner did meet me at the Denver bourse and sold to me at a profit for him, but only about $400 over my intended bid+juice for the original auction. Thankfully, there are good guys out there in reasonable abundance. My Bust dollars by variety and die state is pretty close to completion now.
Didn't hit too many restaurants, unlike prior Denver shows. It is a good city for eating. (Can't say the same about Pittsburgh in August; it was a sequence mediocre to bad meals, except one.)
Been personally out of VAMs for several years now, but still like the game. So, rather than spending money to buy more for me, I scoured the bourse for VAMs for the guy who drives in and helps me at most shows (and is assembling a complete set of all VAMs). Got him about a half dozen that he needed plus a new discovery one. He also independently found a number as well as dramatic new repunched date that is almost assuredly unlisted and a likely nominee for VAM of the Year.
Thursday was very busy and Friday quite so, but arguably just slightly less attended. Saturday resulted in no sales, but got some things done and have several good conversations. My main objectives were related more with Carr and ANACS coordination. At ANACS I also took advantage of their overnight grading on Wednesday to get a few of those soap bars with only NET grades reholdered with Details grades. The nicest was a Gobrecht (1836 J-60 Original) It was NET AU50. I was confident it would go either UNC/MS60 Details or AU58 Details, either one being acceptable to me but the UNC Details obviously the preference. It came back AU58 Details.
The way I always describe the Denver Expo, and the reason I have been returning show after show when I can, is that I really like the vibe there. While some larger regional shows are dying to various degrees, at least in enthusiasm, Denver is more in tune with the shows we remember from a decade or so ago.
Great pictures - fun time for sure.

Glad it was a successful one for you.

Kennedys are my quest...
I saw that they were giving ANACS coins to YNs at the front where you get your tickets.
And other than the Dan Carr coins the dealers got I didn't see any.
There are usually a couple places where YNs are offered coins too.
