Obtaining the first year of half dollars represents a significant accomplishment for the collection of half dollars. My half dollar was sourced from Sheridan Downey, benefitted from the substantial dealer courtesy of in hand examination prior to purchase, is a rarer die pairing, and is in the first words of the auction lot description – ‘An unusually wholesome example’.

Nice! A flowing hair half was on my bucket list 30 years ago, but I never managed to get one.
Wow! A wonderful bust half!
Rare (R6-), handsome, great surfaces. Unspoiled, original good looks. CAC-approved. Simply Lovely.
Hearty congratulations.
Here are some more images.

Wow…that wasn’t cheap. If you’re gonna get one, might as well get a good one! Really nice!!!
I'm BACK!!! Used to be Billet7 on the old forum.
congrats...
Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.
Honestly, looking at it objectively, you got a killer value on your purchase. Probably the nicest 1794 in this grade, better than most in XF except a fraction more wear, it’s the Ex McGuigan coin, nice provenance. Great variety, ridiculously wholesome, and half price for what it sold for in ‘08. How can you lose?’
I'm BACK!!! Used to be Billet7 on the old forum.
Truely phenomenal! Great look for a type that comes usually rough, especially in that grade. Congrats!!

Never a slave to one plastic brand will I ever be.
This coin should be the plate coin for a numismatic dictionary for the term "wholesome". Just wonderful!

Fantastic coin. I have a flowing hair half, but mine is a terrible coin, lol -- yours is really superb. Enjoy it!
A really fantastic acquisition, it has everything going for it.
Congratulations! I would be proud to own that one!

What a coin @JBN and thank you for posting this!
Very nice coin!
Congrats! Very nice example.
Cool. That would be a tough one.
And another early (US) coin. It seems like I usually don't see many posted but this past week there have been a few.

That is a very nice 1794 T-4, a very rare die marriage.
Love the coin -- if in fact you got it for less than half the cost in '08, that's quite a score. Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on your side of the trade) coin values don't always trend in one direction.
What a way to start the set! Beautiful flowing hair dollar.
To me 1st years are the most important of all coins from 1/2 cent to the dollar series. Congrats!!! They are national treasures!!!
