Summer FUN Show Submission GTG/Overton

Pnies20Pnies20 Posts: 2,375 ✭✭✭✭✭

Final wait time for grades and trueviews was 43 business days. They are working to get them out as close to 40 days as possible.

Outside of one they deemed “cleaned” that I don’t really agree with and an 1809 they forgot (or couldn’t find) to add the XXX Edge on the Cert I am very happy.

GTG and if you’re feeling froggy 🐸 guess the Overton on a few! FYI I haven’t posted the cleaned coin in this thread yet.

Wow, amazing coins @Pnies20 . I will be back after work to get the assignment done. I bet that 1823 looks cool in hand. Congrats.

I know the grades and DM's, so I will not comment, but ... oh Baby!!

    There's one hint inhere though;

That 08/7 looks like a delicious piece of cake, and the 23 just glows!! <3<3<3

I wish I had a cool "Uncle" that would sell me some of his coins! ;)

Nice grouping. Kind of has most of the looks. Like the colors.

You know the old show Lost In Space. The robot saying Danger (or danger will Robinson), well that is me with Overton. But here is the 'casual observer' guess on the Overton. Some I didn't check as closely and just went with a 'key' identifier. Sooooo....
Also hard to see some die cracks in photos

1827 O-127 (stripes into bars, to dang many O's of this date) .1 no cracks (only choice and l like that, if O is correct) :)
.....If correct, then is that still an R5
1808 O-101 (cracks in the date) .7 Yes .8 maybe, I think I see part of the cracks
1814 O-108 (E over A, that's cool looking) .2 Yes .3 maybe as I see part of them (the .3 appears to duplicate the .2 description)
1832 O-112 (.1 or .2 dots or no dots??? - what did they do, wear off)
1809 O-102 (marks under banner) .1 no die cracks (at date)
1823 O-107 .1 I can't see die cracks (but could be something starting at 50 left)
1824 O-109 (bar at the claw) .1 no cracks (again only choice and I like that, if O is correct) :)

Wonderful coins! Fresh to the market too, because @habaraca got these from the bank back in the 1830's!

I agree with @lilolme for Overton's. As for grades, these are WAG's all the way. I have only been looking at CBH's for 10 days.

    1808 AU50
    1814 VG10
    1832 AU55
    1809 VF20
    1823 AU53
    1824 AU58

No. It’s a couple separate nicks that happened pretty far apart. One is toned over more than the other. It’s straight graded but was definitely a concern I had when I sent it in.

    1827 - O-127 R5 VF30 - found on eBay
    1808 - O-101 AU58
    1814 - O-108 E/A F12
1832 - O-112 dash date AU53 - found it at a little coin show in Gallatin, TN
1809 - O-102 XXX edge VF25 - PCGS didn’t put the variety on the holder for some reason.
1823 - O-107 AU50 - found this raw at Dalton, GA show. Absolutely love it.
1824 - O-109 4/4 AU53 ?????? How this got AU53 is beyond me. There is a staple scratch to the left of the wing but it should be a 55.

Well outside of the 1808 I was close. Thanks for putting these out for a GRG. I have work to do on those early date coins.

@Pnies20 love the fact you can find these and that is what makes the hunt for all the different varieties so fun.. I am still learning about the Capped Bust Half series but I find it amazing and still cant get over what you found. Maybe I should refine my search at shows (on buying side) to just look at Capped Bust halves. It would be good to cater to one side of the market more than just learn everything and only know some of each but not most or all of one specific type. Back to Don Parsleys, I go!!

Just for fun here are the two coins that came back cleaned from the submission.

I can see why on both but I really don’t agree with the designation. Both look market acceptable at the very least.

Both coins were in Kraft envelopes for quite some time.

    1820/19 Sq. 2 VF details (probably a 30)

1828 O-106 R4+ AU details … really unhappy about this one

The grading services like the following quote.....

If at first you don't succeed, try and try again! ;)

Q: When does a collector become a numismatist?

A: The year they spend more on their library than their coin collection.

A numismatist is judged more on the content of their library than the content of their cabinet.
