PCGS Submission Question

My interpretation of their instructions is that if you send multiple coins in but they have different services performed, that they will be mailed back separately. Is this correct? If so, that could get rather expensive. Lol!

I plan to send some coins in sometime this Fall. My three classes will be: raw coin grading, crossover, and reholder old PCGS slab. Values of the coins will also be in different levels, with at least one being valued over $3K.

Correct, mailed back to you separately

    :*
Depends on what you are talking about?
Regular grading and variety attributions. Both will arrive together.
Error coins need separate forms. However, I'm pretty sure they still will arrive together?
    I think, anyway?

Different service levels will come back separately and are supposed to be put on different forms. The packages may even return on the same day (almost had this happen - 24 hours apart). You're still paying twice.

Raw grading, crossovers and Reholder requires 3 separate submission forms. Each submission, whether all 3 are sent together or separately, will be shipped separately.

Also, label the box with highest tier service under the mailing address when sending multiple submissions.

Such as "Gold Shield"? Write it across the package below the complete address?

Thanks for the replies, everyone. I'm something like four coins away from my complete set, then I'll be sending off anything not already in a Gold Shield holder with TrueView.

If I become a PCGS member, I'll get grading vouchers. Can those be used towards crossover or reholder submissions?

Only put Service Level..... Express, Regular, Modern, Modern Value, etc.

I wouldn’t waste a voucher on Reholder. You will pay shipping no matter what service level you’re using and reholder is the cheapest anyway. Use the voucher for a grading service.

As for crossover I’m not sure, but some one will come up with the correct answer.

It doesn’t really apply to your question, but allowing combination submissions would save their customers a ton in shipping charges. I imagine their larger submitters like dealers and auction houses typically send large lots for a single type of service. For collectors, it’s common to have a coin or two that require a variety of services.

I get why they do it, but it would be a huge benefit to collectors to reconsider (no pun intended) this policy.

    To revisit this thread...

As it has panned out, I three crossovers and seven that I'd like to have reholdered from standard to Gold Shield. All are under the $2500 limit, with the exception of one that will be reholdered. So, one submission form for crossovers and one for reholders? Or do I need to add a second reholder form due to the value of that single coin being over $2500 (making three forms)?

I reholdered a coin that was above 2500 with a couple others and they just adjusted the fee before charging my card

Thank you for the reply. I wondered if it might be as easy as submitting them on the same form and and simply being charged split fees.

you could always crack them out and send in all of them raw for GoldShield regular grading

There is also the chance of higher grades, but you would lose any stickers.

It would probably depend on how much could be lost with a lower grade versus same/higher. It was already stated they want in PCGS.

  • logger7logger7 Posts: 8,632 ✭✭✭✭✭

On the right tiers, at least with NGC, the value is only an estimate and since "value" is subject to many market forces, you could put a higher value coin in a lower tier, but may be charged extra if there are outsized results. Just as there are plenty of "details" grades that are unexpected where they don't refund you anything even if they are on a high tier.

At least you save shipping on your way to PCGS. I do that all the time. I put couple orders in USPS priority large box to save some shipping one way but not both way.

  • M4MadnessM4Madness Posts: 398 ✭✭✭✭

Okay, I joined PCGS yesterday and the welcome email arrived immediately. It stated that my four vouchers for gold membership would be emailed to me, but nothing further arrived.

If I check my account on the PCGS app, it says I have unredeemed vouchers. Clicking on that shows a single voucher number and a quantity of 4. Is it safe to assume that all four vouchers have the same number?

  • ndeaglesndeagles Posts: 394 ✭✭✭✭

Yes, if you use the online submission to, check the box to use vouchers and it will apply them on the form you print and include with the submission. I try to make less but bigger submissions rather than a bunch of smaller ones since it saves on overhead costs. I haven't use vouchers with a paper form so not sure how to do it that way.

  • OnastoneOnastone Posts: 4,017 ✭✭✭✭✭

World coins, currency, and US coins all need separate forms and mailings.

  • 1madman1madman Posts: 1,515 ✭✭✭✭✭

I haven’t gotten a paper form for the vouchers the last several years. I believe I now get a email with my voucher number and it’s on my account online, and that same voucher number can be used multiple times if you don’t submit all 4 (or 8) coins at the same time.

I don't know about currency but World and US coins can be sent in together...although they do require separate forms and will be mailed back separately.

I asked this question in another thread, and it hasn't been that long but since I am here, I am sending in some coins, A couple accented hair Kennedys and a couple 63 proof DDR dimes, can those be used as voucher submissions?

Yes of course. But remember, if you don't use them, you'll lose them....they do expire.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but you've probably lost them. The vouchers need to be valid when it's time for billing which means when the grading is done, not when the order is received. I would definitely call customer service first thing tomorrow and ask.

I don't know anything about Kennedys or proof dimes but I would also ask them if you need to select variety attribution for those varieties which is probably an extra $20 per coin on top of the voucher or cash if you pay cash.

  • ELVIS1ELVIS1 Posts: 174 ✭✭✭

Will they call me for an increase?
    Paying by card.

In my experience this is not true. I sent in a submission in 2022 in March, they were reporting 60 days Turnaround time, my vouchers expired end of month. I emailed customer service and they told me it was based on received date. I asked at the ANA show and they told me the same info there. I got my coins back in June and the vouchers were applied.

I was given an extension in time because I was renewing my Platinum membership and if they went by the amount of days they would Never have had a chance from the get-go. She told me they need to be received within the time frame but maybe PCGS will clarify.

From another thread...like my info is a couple of years old but worthy of double checking.

    @Luxor said:
I too can relate to Pniws20. A few years back during the covid crisis I had not yet used my 8 grading vouchers from my PCGS Platinum membership and my 1 yr membership was coming close to renewal but I unfortunately caught covid and knew I probably wouldn't be using my 8 vouchers by the time my 1 yr membership renewed. I too spoke with a PCGS rep who very clearly advised me that wasn't an issue as long as I renewed my membership I could use the grading vouchers after the 1 yr point. Well as it turned out that was 100% incorrect and my grading vouchers expired worthless. As everyone knows the biggest perk and most valuable aspect of joining is the grading vouchers and I pretty much just lost my $249.00 as a result of getting bad info from their rep. When I spoke to a customer service manager after the fact I was told no way will they honor them after the 1 yr mark regardless of what I was told previously.

  • ELVIS1ELVIS1 Posts: 174 ✭✭✭

I guess I will find out soon whether they will honor their word or not. I was put on hold while she confirmed my extension and at this point, I have no reason to not have a faith in the system.
I think the plandemic period was an extenuating period especially in Cali.

For crossovers, do you put anything in the Cert # box, ie the certification number from the other TPG's slab?

I have done this (e.g., "NGC ###"). Have also included the grade in the appropriate field. Never had an issue.

This submission stuff is a nightmare! Where do I find my PCGS member number? Ugh!

EDIT: I had to get on my laptop to get my account information. When using my phone, I'd get a sidebar that would quickly disappear before I could click anything on it.
