I am deeply saddened hearing this news this today. When I started perusing this forum years ago, I asked myself, " This RickO guy is always posting and must be on this site 24/7." And his post count kept going up and up and I found myself hoping and wishing for him to break 100,000 posts. I always gravitated within a post to RickO's response. Having never met or spoke with him, I had the utmost respect for him (The 1911 helped make that decision). To me, RickO was a huge part of what makes this forum a success, and there are many others here as well. I know it's been mentioned, but I hope PCGS does do some form of recognition for our forum friend.
"Cheers RickO!" RIP

I didn’t know RickO and to those of you that were his friend I give my sincere condolences. I just wanted to say that I noticed what a decent man he was just by reading his posts all the time. He never seemed to have a negative thought or feeling about anything other than toned coins. Always happy and ever cheerful is the way I saw him.
We should all strive to be more like RickO.

For those of us who enjoy coins and wine, the World Wine Awards 2023 has just completed. I enjoy a nice Cabernet in the evenings when reviewing coins either from my collection or online. Thanks for bringing this to my attention. For those that didn't click on the hotlink, this was a wine tasting competition of 18,500 different wines from 60 countries, that took place in London. Four bottles of each wine had to be submitted (so there were 74,000 bottles in all). There were 240 judges, each tasting 80 to 90 wines per day this past April.
Now I understand why I read back in April there was a tremendous line of men and women, going all the way from London England to Edinburgh Scotland. They were applying to hope to become one of those lucky 240 judges, lol.

He actually lived in New York state. (He had mentioned a number of times that he had lived in Seattle at one point years ago).
Nice to see that he was active here right up until the end.
I’m not so often here (because of my bad English and US Coins are a side collection of mine), but when I logged in I always was first looking for post from RickO.
I always appreciated his contributions and informative, nice and respectful comments so much.
RickO embodied what was good in people. He was kind, generous, and enthusiastic in this hobby we all enjoy. The outpouring of love and respect for a man most of us never met is very telling. We all strive to know someone special in life in which to compare the rest of society; a role model if you will. RickO was just that: a man for all of us to strive to emulate.
It was comforting to know that there was a person like that on the forums.
We will all miss Rick. Those that had the privilege of meeting him in person are surely better off from the experience. The rest of us will remember him from his many thousands of posts on this forum.
My condolences to his friends, family, and to all of you.

We never had the chance to meet, but knowing just his online persona, @ricko was probably the board member I’ve most enjoyed ribbing over the years, what with our opposing taste in eye appeal and his unfettered good nature being “the” non-toned coin guy. I’m sure I’ll be tagging him for years to come. A true loss 🙁

RickO had open heart surgery to repair a thoracic aortic aneurysm and two blockages on June 20 and came through like a champ. He was a couple of days in ICU, a couple of days in rehab, and at home on June 27. He progressed through every step of recovery without a hitch, and on July 31, at his cardio check-up, he was released to drive and return to work. He was one happy man! He was scheduled to start physical therapy to strengthen his heart on Tuesday, August 1. He got up, got himself ready, and fed his cat. When I went to tell him I was about to start his breakfast, he had already entered his Eternal Nap. No pain, no struggle... just sat back on his bed, closed his eyes, and left us.
These forums brought many years of comradery and joy to my husband. Your tributes to him are exceptionally heartwarming. Thank you... I cheered him on to reach that 100,000 post, but his Creator had a different plan.
