GTG on SLQ

I find the series infectious. My first set goal was an album with the primary goal of full dates and an 'old worn silver look'. That morphed into desiring ever higher levels of detail, then degrees of luster. In the mean time, I had also acquired graded pieces for my Type set. All this taking me to one of my current pursuits of a SLQ registry date set (still unsure I'll lever chase the 1916). Here are two of my newer acquisitions, with brand new images. Take a stab at the grades!

USAF (Ret) 1974 - 1994 - The inherent vice of capitalism is the unequal sharing of blessings; the inherent virtue of socialism is the equal sharing of miseries. Remembering RickO, a brother in arms.
1923- AU55
1930- MS63
I like them both- I see the 1930 as MS and the reverse of the 1923 holds it back- still could 58 but I would need to see in hand before going there
Experience the World through Numismatics...it's more than you can imagine.
1923 - Higher end of AU. Wear on the eagle, head by the ear and on right breast. The 23 P is usually well struck.
1930 - Lower end of AU. Noticeable wear on head, both breasts and sash, and on eagle as well. The 30 P usually is weakly struck.
I like the series, but when looking at coins in the MS 65 or better range, and whether a coin is a just made it FH or not quite a FH, I can only look at a few of them at one sitting.

SLQs are magnificent. I've always thought they were an underrated series.
1st coin, AU58, a really, really nice technical 55.
2nd coin, AU55, I see the toning here as neutral to mildly positive, but I bet lots of folks like it.
Both exhibit typical strike weakness.

Those are both great looking coins! I’ll guess AU55 for each.

AU55 and MS63
Im thinking 55 and 55 although the first is a tad nicer.

MS63 on both since I don't see the wear and the knees look good too.
I find them both very attractive.

And the answers are...
The 1923 is graded 58, and is the better struck of the two, retaining more details in the mail and on the eagle's feathers.
The 1930 is graded 63. I concur there is some weakness where other posters have noted but there are no luster breaks in hand. IMO a very eye appeal piece (both are for that matter).
Four pieces left to complete the set, excluding the 1916. One piece was just submitted for a cross, three more to actively pursue.

Yeah the weak strikes can be misleading if you aren't familiar with the series. Nailed the 23 tho. Nice pick ups!

What's also odd about this weak strike is that Philly mint 1930s are not known to be among weak the weaker strikes, quite the opposite in fact. For a 63, I would expect far better definition on the chain mail, especially this close to full head.
