CAC GRADING and SAMPLE SLABS!

Has anyone else gotten a CAC sample slab in the mail? Got one today and it arrived UNDAMAGED. Seems lightweight for one. Looks like they will interlock when stacked, which is sort of a nice feature. FWIW they WON'T fit into a PCGS blue box. Not sure about NGC. Does anyone know if they are they taking pics of graded coins?

This 2000-P Virginia State Quarter arrived in the mail today, but CAC Grading? Never heard of them.

You said a lot here. What is the issue. You said UNDAMAGED in capital letters. What are you actually asking , about the fitting in boxes? Well, PCGS slabs fit into PCGS boxes. Why would it matter otherwise??
With regards to pictures, maybe contact CACG to ask that. Just a thought??
Edited to add, my apologies Bajjar, because my response is quoted it’s there, I jumped the gun to even read your response. I totally get it now and I’m happy to be the silly response! Sometimes I speak out of turn! My apologies again.

Why are folks getting sent sample slabs?
BHNC #248 … 130 and counting.
Active members over the last year are getting one in the mail. They also have a booth at ANA and will be handing them out on a first come first serve basis.

Changed and edited after I realized what OP meant.
No issue. The slab arrived in a small bubble pack envelope and could easily have gotten broken in transit. I had no idea it was coming. I tried putting into a PCGS box and it won't fit so I was just letting folks know. I didn't ask if they fit, I stated that they don't fit which means that I already know. Other TPG slabs do fit so there's that. Convenience of storage is all unless CAC boxes are already out there.
Yeah, I know I could ask at CAC, but just as easy to ask here.
Looks like if you were/are a submitter you get a free sample slab.
I’m sure I jumped the gun. My apologies. have been hitting my messages and seeing the VB posts. I think I may have been off on my previous post. My apologies!
Um yea, one thing- you're not got break that slab, ever. Go ahead and try it.

Dan, do you know how many of these were made? I'm not a CAC member and can't make it to the ANA show. I have seen several listed on ebay and would like one for my slab collection, but I have been hesitant to pull the trigger as more and more continue to surface.

I'll take your word for it.
I don't know how many were made, but let me see what I can do. I know some people with quantities and if I can get ahold of a couple and ill send you one.

Have any sold on eBay at those asking prices? Oh my goodness, $500? holy smokes.
More in the $200 range, but yes. I suspect the prices will come down steadily over the next few weeks now that the “rank and file” are getting theirs in-hand. Wouldn’t be surprised to see them settle around $50.

Yes, people got a bit overzealous and were paying $300-$400 dollars for them at first. Prices have slowly been dropping and I would expect that they'll flatline under $100 sometime in the near future.

I received mine today. I think dealers and the big investors received many, many sample slabs. Unlike the early PCGS slabs, it won’t be easy to look at a Cert number and recognize it being an early slab. The 3 posted here have completely different numbers, not even close to one another numerically.

So.....looks like al CAC graded coins come with a CAC sticker. Genius.
Do they have pop reports yet? The few I could find on eBay are low single digit numbers except for one at 498. $1000/100 rolls worth would give 4000 slabs which I assume would be plenty if they had that many available and all coins were slab-able as choice BU.
I don't understand the logic of giving each coin a separate 9 digit serial number if that's actually what they did. Why not take a page out of NGC's book and just do 123456789-001 to 123456789-00X for how many sample slabs you are going to issue. Sort of a waste of cert numbers for an ungraded coin IMO. Another thing I notice is that the cert number and other numbers on the same line are a little hard to read. There's certainly room to make them a little larger.
They do have POP reports on the website for graded coins. No Sample slabs though of course. The only ones I’ve seen in low single or double digits were those from the winners of their essay contest, which received the first 20.

I don't think that I'd be planning to ever get a gold again tho.
Nice looking slab - Will be interesting to watch them grow. Cheers, RickO
There are sample slabs with single digits on eBay both current and completed sales.
I didn’t say they didn’t exist, I just never saw one. But then I haven’t looked on eBay for them. I might try plugging some assorted double digit numbers in the cert page.

A gold bean would literally be begging for resubmission and an acknowledgment that an error was made
Are you talking about the single digit on the far right?

Yes, whatever that is supposed to signify.
That is an internal tracking number and means nothing to anyone outside of CACG.

Al is right. The Cert number is the 9 digits to the left.

More likely an error. Judging by its position in the various pics posted here it looks to have been added on at some point in the process. Anything that would have previously been gold will be accounted for in the final grade. CACG isn't going to sticker their own graded coins.
Saw one on GC the other nite they had bid it up to $6.50 - passed laughing - why should I pay somebody that for a coin not worth over 50c.
It's a logo. Kind of like PCGS's gold shield. Makes it harder to fake the labels, too.

I know, it was a joke, hence "Genius" at the end.
$6.50 ? Did you miss the part of the conversation where people were paying $300-400?

Possibly or in disbelief.
The BU Virginia qtr sample slab at $250 lol?
I don’t care what they paying - $250 or $300 for a 50c - 1$ MV cupro nickel 25c coin? Feel sorry for them.
The bullion ones will compare w CPG when have time. My impression all presales. Otherwise somebody would be posting their one they bought here.
A scarce rare occurrence, but I completely agree with you.

This is good. I don't have a lot of space on my labels for long serial numbers.

I want one, but there’s no way I could pay that out of principal.

You might want to look at the prices of NGC and PCGS sample slabs before you scoff.
Yeah but it's worth more than $6.50
Agreed, I was only siding with him on the one particular comment I quoted.

I could see innovation dollars in there, but SHQs ? Cheapening the brand out of the chute, in my opinion.... if my opinion counts. ( and, of course, it doesn't).
