This tit-for-tat you've engaged in is silly. You want to defend something that you don't know. I've never done it, seen it being done or heard the specifics of the process. With the so-called "gassing" of slabs there is clear evidence in the form of an admission of guilt. Just step-off a bit and admit the hole drilling is speculation from you without any sort of proof.
Yes, I'm defending the possibility of something that I've been told has been done and believe to be true. The same goes for reports of various other methods of artificially toning coins, despite the fact that I haven't done it or witnessed it and that I don't know the specifics.
Frankly, if you hadn't been so rude in the first place, I wouldn't have even commented. What you label "…the ridiculous speculation theory of hole drilling" is what some people have claimed and reported. So quit being rude and silly.

Not rude, just that you inferred an attack. I don't think we should promote ideas based on heresay and the hole theory fits that. Absent some evidence I remain a skeptic.

I did infer an attack, despite having a fairly thick skin. I had/have no issue with skepticism in the absence of evidence. In fact, I think it's warranted and healthy. But to me your "the ridiculous speculation theory" comment went well beyond skepticism.
I've had my say and wont engage in further tit-for-tat.

Mark is generally correct from my understanding and what I’ve seen. There is an obvious (and good reason for) reason to argue NT/AT. No question some of the early holders, owners found a way to make toning. I know Ricko will hate this, but often toning is a true draw for collectors. I tend to agree with silver toned is far better looking that artificial white color.
I know nothing about the coins/Ike pieces, but that kind of color while may be natural, is not easily market acceptable. Frankly it’s just too new for the colors. But I have seen myself manipulated ASE that can be toned that way.

My experience indicates that toning or not, buy what you like. I like shinny colorful objects, NT AT or natural or accelerated…eventually even a novice collector like me can tell the difference. It’a so funny to hear all the conspiracy theories, right up there with alien stories. But I do enjoy reading your banter.
I have about half dozen ikes that graded QC and man, those in retrospect were doctored for sure bc of the lack of surface variation under 5-10x magnification. I hold on to them for educational purposes and keep my eye freshly trained and will post on instagram soon.
Usually it’s the colorful coins that attract more interest to any series, so maybe don’t bash it so much, your only hurting the hobby.

@Maywood.... Yes, you are correct, I did not take the TruView element into consideration. Cheers, RickO

Braddock has always been a trouble maker.
A ruby gem that was oddly enough found in one of them OG mint cello packs, now who would have guessed that? Maybe the mint guy passed some gas in it:)
Ehhh... not my circle of competence.
I do enjoy finding them wild, raw, and making a grade. Never pay a premium.
