It got stolen? At what point? Since it was supposedly submitted to NGC in person at a show then he has paperwork to prove the submission and during the several months you were waiting for the coin there would have been updates from NGC on the status of the coin. So, it appears that it must have been stolen during shipping back to your friend or that while in the possession of your friend he suffered what insurance calls a "mysterious loss". Regardless, if it were stolen during shipping then NGC would have had it graded and will have a record of the grade assigned. So, what did it grade?
Look, I was suspicious from the beginning and that hasn't changed.

Great minds think alike. I just made the same point. If he can't/won't supply proof, I would be very suspicious. And if he does provide proof that the slabbed coin exists, I'd start looking for the coin for sale from the same dealer for full retail.
I had a random customer ask for a $10 refund on a magazine when I apparently didn't notice the loose cover - or it came loose in shipping. I sent my "non-friend" a full refund for the total purchase price, even though my non-friend didn't ask for it. If @joeykoins your friend is still holding your money after months, he is not only not a friend, he's not even a good business person.
Your “friend” owes you a refund of $75 for the coin + $30 for the submission fee. If NGC shipped it to him and he never received it, NGC’s insurance will pay out. If he “lost” it after he received it from NGC, he needs to file his own insurance claim or eat it. Either way, he owes you $75 + $30.
I am shocked he would risk his reputation over $105. Reputation is all any of us have in this hobby.
Please keep us posted on whether you receive the coin or a refund.
Ask him for the NGC certification number. If he says it was stolen by NGC, ask for the submission number so you can email them and ask if they received it at all.
I bet there’s a solid chance NGC never saw that coin.
Can someone please post the name/business name of this scammer here? This guy needs to be outed, and our coin community needs to be protected from this lying thief.

I’m more suspicious than that. I think they did see it and it came back in a holder worth much more than $75.

Bob, this is also my other suspicion.
My plan goes along these lines: once we have the submission or cert number, we can put it into NGC's verification tool and try random grades until we get the result.
@joeykoins said:
Got back to him!
He said, the coin was "Detailed" Cleaned. No grade.
He said he will refund me $110. The amount I sent to him.
Thanks guys.
I hope you get your refund back, but it would have been even better if he gave you the NGC submission form number and/or the certification number given to the coin so that you could confirm what he stated about the grade. After all, if it did shockingly come back as he hyped it when sold, he may have decided to have it get "lost".
I’m glad you will get your money back (assuming that he follows through). If there were no shenanigans (which I would find extremely hard to believe) that is actually honorable of the dealer since it ought to be your coin.
However, as others have said, I would push for the cert number (after all, it is yours, you should have the option to at least see it). Also ask why it took so long and how the “stolen” coins were recovered. No matter the answers, I would never do business with that guy again. At best he is honest but clueless about the coins he is selling.
I watched a few minutes of the YouTube video of this guy hyping common low grade problem coins. @JoeyCoins - I don’t want to run afoul of the rules on this forum, so I will leave it at this - I strongly suggest you seek out reputable dealers or only buy slabbed coins from a major TPG.
The YouTube seller’s story holds no water. He sells the coin as a possible 66FB (or higher) for $75, where it could be worth $1000. Next, after the results were due to drop, he claims the coin along with others in the submission were stolen. Now he says he has the results and the coin was detailed.
Like others have said, I would push to find out the submission and order number for this coin. If he has the information the coin was detailed let’s see a screen shot of that result. He must have been emailed the finalized results or they were posted to his account. I can still see result from my submissions to NGC from 15 years ago from my NGC account page.
As I recall this was originally supposed to be graded by PCGS per your preference and his promise. But, when he got to the show where he was going to submit it there was some issue and he dropped it off with NGC.
Fast forward and we find out that he claims it was stolen.
Now, he says it wouldn't grade due to it having been cleaned.
What happened to "stolen"?
In any case, I won't be surprised if his "refund" turns into a credit toward some other flashy bauble.

To be (overly) fair - it would have had to have been lost in the mail on the return trip from NGC since it was a show submission over the summer. So, it would have to have been (details) graded before being lost/stolen in the mail. That part of his story is plausible - just suspicious like the whole episode.

There should still be a paper trail showing the results, usually found in the account holders member file.

Joey is this the first coin you bought from him? It sounds as if you have had many successful deals since you are calling him a friend.
Also, it's been 2 days...did he send you the refund?🤔

After reading this entire thread from the beginning this is my take
He submitted the coin to NGC
He got the results from NGC
Waited for awhile to figure out what to do after he saw the grade
It graded MS65-66FB a lot more then the $75 that you paid him for it
Then he said it was stolen, but realized by saying that that would result in a claim and he couldn't do that because it wasn't stolen in the 1st place
Then he told you that it detailed and failed grading just to get you off his back and said he would refund your $105
So now he has the coin and probably will be selling it for way more money.
I would demand that he either shows you the NGC paperwork like mentioned by others above, or show you the body bag that NGC sent back. I would also insist that he sends you a pic of the coin in the body bag. Then maybe I would let him send me the refund.
Sorry this happened to you Joey, good luck.

You should ask for the proof of the details grade. If it was lost in the mail and was a details grade, then 100 bucks makes you whole. If it was a 65/66 FB that was lost in the mail, you are owed 1000 bucks not 100 because you owned it at the time it was lost. And if it was never lost in the mail... well, you can never be made whole for what you lost.

Then you should be fine. Sorry you didn't get your coin. Many on here are quick to assume your friend is a thief or con artist which is a shame.

Nice photo Joey. Funny thing, I bought a brand new Ford and took a trip to the Chicago area. During the trip, I lost third gear, manual transmission. I was able to drive it to that particular Ford dealership, in you photos. After they said the truck was a brand new release and that they wouldn’t be able to obtain the parts for a repair because Ford hadn’t released them yet. They said maybe a month. The truck was two weeks old at the time.
I took my plates off the truck and told them to keep it. After much discussion and correspondence with Ford headquarters. They paid for my week hotel bill, provided me with a loaner to drive back to the east coast, shipped me my truck on a flatbed truck once repaired - all on them. The truck ended up with 250K miles once I was done with it.

Life is too short to dwell on the negatives!😎
We aren't assuming that he is a thief or con artist. In fact, I think those terms overstate most of our suspicions. We are suspicious of the series of actions taken and just suggested that Joey get proof of the story, especially if he's considering ever doing business with the man again. A man who, by the way, Joey referred to as a "friend".
The prior deals might all have been in the dealer's favor with no incentive for the dealer not to follow through. Keep in mind this was advertised as a 65/66 FB which allegedly came back details. Imagine, hypothetically, that every prior coin was similar over-hyped. There was never an incentive for the dealer to (hypothetically again) pretend the coin got lost in the mail.

Exactly right. We’re past that stage and know he is both a thief and con artist. No legit seller in the coin industry does business this way. I didn’t catch his name in the YouTube video, but if someone will mention it, I may have a way to file a complaint with NGC to stop this from happening again.

The YouTube video is in the OP.
Exactly right. We’re past that stage and know he is both a thief and con artist. No legit seller in the coin industry does business this way. I didn’t catch his name in the YouTube video, but if someone will mention it, I may have a way to file a complaint with NGC to stop this from happening again.
While you’re apparently certain that you know what happened (and you could be right), that doesn’t mean you actually know what happened. You could be wrong.

I watched this video for a few minutes. I couldn't take it any more after I heard "Sweet Caroline" playing in the background, and repeated about a hundred times.
OK guys, I appreciate all your concern and frustration. To note: there are also 2 other people involved that lost coins in this transaction too!
However, believe me everyone. I am content in the outcome. No need to feed the drama. Lol.
Thanks again guys. If it is true what you think and say. That's all in his court. He'll have to meet the real judge later.
Please let sleeping dogs lie.
"Jesus died for you and for me, Thank you,Jesus"!!!
--- If it should happen I die and leave this world and you want to remember me. Please only remember my opening Sig Line. It's been a slow week. We needed some drama.
But glad it worked out to your satisfaction. You obviously aren't going to let it eat away at you, which is ultimately best for you.
I'd let him know you want the "details" coin. Tell him you don't care it is "details" and you want it for your collection.
I'll bet you it will not be sent to you as it is not in a "details" holder.
And if it is, so what? Crack it and resubmit on your terms and timetable.

watching the video with his dime and a couple others, I was feeling altered surfaces as the fields looked too clean
Disagree strongly; the rot spreads when left and infects the whole coin market; liars and thieves are a cancer, or should we just tolerate coin theft and let the dogs lie ?
It's lost/stolen in the mail. Allegedly.
As stated above Joey-We want to hear his version. You know, two sides to story.
on the way to the grading service or the way back?
Yea but like Joey already mentioned he doesn’t really want to hear all the drama. We all know they’re crooks in every facet of life. So where is that meme of a gentleman beating the crap out of a horse because I think we’re there.
