What I've been up to

PedzolaPedzola Posts: 988 ✭✭✭✭✭

Hey everyone,
I have been sorta absent from the forum lately so I just wanted to share an update as to what I've been working on.

1) I have a running thread on my $5 Indian date set. No news, waiting for the right coins!

2) I sold a few pieces from my gold type set to consolidate into a smaller "better" composite. In rebuilding mode - will update when I have more to share.

3) I started a 7-mintmark set of $5 libs. Have 4/7 currently. Lower priority, will add when the time / coin is right.

4) Most importantly, I have been spending a lot of time on woodworking!

After sharing some coin trays that I had made for myself, I found strong demand from fellow collectors. This year I've really evolved the designs (and my workshop) and have been trying to get more efficient.

Still just a weekend hobby, and I can't make nearly enough for all the requests I get, but I have been having fun and meeting some great collectors. I have been posting the trays only on instagram (you can find me there a "hypnogold").

Here are some examples:

When I got into coin macro photography, that was a big addition to the hobby for me. Turns out woodworking is the next thing! I am treating it like a business for the $$ in/out, but it seems unlikely that I'll be able to scale up to meet demand. Limited by the number of hours I have to spend in my workshop, balanced with my day job and all other life commitments. I am enjoying meeting other collectors and providing a nice product so people don't have to have show their life's work on generic cardboard jewelry trays.

I would like to come up with a good design for a treasure chest next. 😁

They’re works of art. Such a classy way to display a collection.

Are you putting your makers mark on?
Possibly an engraved brass plate, Pedzola Type I etc.

I love the one I have and I'm really excited for the new model that should be coming in the mail tomorrow. Also, these make fantastic gifts for the coin lovers in your lives.

Beautiful trays. Don't know what one costs but may be interested in one myself.

Great attention to detail. What are you applying to the woods to seal them?

    Watco Danish Oil.

Been doing a little woodworking myself lately.

The aquarium stand looks awesome! I used to keep fish too. Ultimately I ended up rehoming the long-term residents and winding down.

I have not seen sycamore or holly at my lumber supplier but I will check next time.

Here's some sycamore I salvaged from a tree that broke in during a storm. Bands of the stippled parts look really cool, a bit like leopardwood:

Nothing to indicate size of square holes. Overall size. Need some coins in for perspective.

About halfway through the thread OP posted a tray that's occupied by slabs, just scroll up a bit.

How do you prefer we submit orders?

Idea: Box of 20 that opens like a backgammon game. Small straps to keep them from falling when opening.

Have thought about various designs like this. Neat idea.

Unfortunately I can't take orders. As mentioned above there is much more demand than I can handle. Best I can do is this: send me a PM with what you're looking for and I can let you know when I have something available.

I have been averaging 2-4 trays per week.

🤣 love the cat’s face. He’s over it.

I love the look. The back looks like the neck through body on my bass guitar.

Hope I can get one sometime!

Wow! Exceptional craftmanship! It would be neat if these could slide into some sort of coin cabinet.

Beautiful work indeed!! They would look great if you had the volume to bring to a coin show. I do think you would sell out with such great products. I realize it is a side business... but could be more. Cheers, RickO
