OK, let's have it.
Has this been messed with? Under the bright lights, she looks a little suspect. In hand, it's quite attractive.
It's currently bathing in some acetone to remover the obv & rev gunk.

I suspect the coin was wiped long ago but has since retoned to more of a circulated cameo look. Looks like a really nice album coin... not sure if it would straight grade, but my guess is that it would be deemed market acceptable.

    Pretty coin... I like it!

    2 camps-
Sometimes that dark toning can be faked to cover hairline and cleanings
Other camp dark crusty tone shows originality

I think I like it. I say not cleaned.

I'd say rubbed and scrubbed. I'd take it though!

Cleaned or not, it certainly looks like great album coin to me.

Looks like a nice album coin... but if submitted, might get 'graffiti' due to the X across the cheek. Cheers, RickO

Light scrapes and scratches look to be due to circulation/handling. Usually with cleaning, many, if not most of the hairlines or marks are parallel to one another which is not present here. However, the long shallow scratch across the cheek and the deeper one in the field in front of the eye may sabotage chances of a straight grade.

Lightly burnished with a cloth to make the details stand out. An excellent album coin that many would love to have.

Thanks for the opinions. I was going to put it in my type set album but am on the fence... We shall see how it looks after the acetone. It's a tough date to find nice at any rate without spending a ton of money.

First thought was that it was a Chinese knock off. Reverse and Obverse "toning" don't match at all. Dentils on reverse below F look odd. In fact a lot of the dentils look like skinny pegs.
But, then I don't collect anything Barber.

Wiped for sure. Not horribly though. Lots of Barbers are monkeyed with.

Always looking for original, better date VF20-VF35 Barber quarters and halves, and a quality beer.
