This key issue half saw service. Sad about the damage. More than melt - I think you could get better part of $50 for it.

It's a badly damaged, very worn, coin.

Ok, more than melt, I suppose, since even a G4 is worth $300 according to our hosts. But it's only a slot-filler for a coin folder, so not a lot more than melt. Maybe as much as $50, but not from me.
Color me surprised, but Id say no less than $50-$75 (on the very low end) because of the severity of the damage, but possibly much more than that. Here's a few comps I found, and there are a ton of other data points within that range. If I were you, i'd throw it on the 'bay and let her rip @ .99

it’s not my coin……..yet
Wow, it's hard to argue with you. Color me surprised. And wrong. Well, except I still wouldn't touch a coin that badly damaged for more than $50, but I now believe that someone would.
Okay, I'll be the guy to write it since you have stated

If that cryptic response means that you are bidding on the piece or otherwise hoping to buy it then let me tell you I would urge against spending the money if the money is valuable to you. I've looked at the five coins linked by @DeplorableDan, who did a great job of researching low grade and damaged 1921-D WLHs that have sold on ebay, and the average cost of the five coins (exclusive of any postage) is $165.40.
If you have the patience, discipline, resources and desire to wait a little longer for a 1921-D WLH that should be far, far easier to sell when it comes time to sell, and every coin is eventually sold, then I would suggest you give serious thought to something like the active BIN or website purchases similar to the following-
PCGS G4
PCGS G6
NGC G4
PCGS VG8
It is true that the average of the coins I just listed is $354.75 exclusive of shipping, but they are all TPG certified (three by PCGS and one by NGC) and all are in problem-free holders. They also represent approximately 2x the investment of the coins linked previously, but again if you are faced with purchasing the coin in the OP for $165.40 or something TPG certified with far fewer problems and likely greater liquidity then you may want to give it some thought.

There is a lot of "stupid" money chasing key date coins these days. If you were to spend $354.75 on that coin you would be joining the ranks of the "stupid" money buyers. Stay away.
That's a key date hole filler. Someone on a budget would love to buy that coin to complete their album set

It's a hole filler, or a "starter" in some books (folder/album).
It fills a void. My guess.

Put it on Ebay with good pictures and description of the damage, 99 cents start, no reserve, and watch it fetch more than it should. This kind of coin is what always surprised me (in a good way) when I used to sell on Ebay: key date, high demand, but ugly. It won't appeal to the people who read this forum at all, so you're going to get low-end value estimates - but the larger Ebay crowd has much different tastes in coins.

So you were trying to buy to buy a group of walkers that included the key date to the set, at less than what walkers are going for as junk silver….nice try.
Not a coin I would buy. I can see the point of those focused on filling a hole in an album, but I would not choose that one. Carefully read @TomB's post above...Cheers, RickO
I had no interest in the coin/lot. I placed a bid to keep track of it to see what the lot will sell for. The seller has since rejected 120.

I understand hole fillers when you go lower in grade then the set or your goal, or very lightly cleaned/minor details. Would never buy a mess just to fill a hole, even if coin values continue to appreciate. I could not look at that coin without disgust.

It is worth whatever it sells for. Put it in an auction and the highest bidder will determine the value. Only worth slightly over melt to me, but a person in desperate need of a 1921-D to complete a low grade album may see a higher value.

I would not pay over melt for that coin. That is one ugly, dinged up, cleaned all to hell coin.
Well it’s been thru it.
Rather than speculate value would just start it on the bay at 99c plus shipping and just let her rip. Perhaps the winning bidder uses it fill hole in album.
