I finally made time to scan this card purchased recently...so I will include it here. A bold, well-focused image with a rich red background...a few print blemishes in the red background downgrades the card. Still...I have a hard time accepting this grade. Notice the absence of a tilt commonly plaguing the issue. PSA definitely has much tougher grading standards these days.

What a way to start off the month. What a beauty! Congrats.
Definitely an example of "buying the CARD, not the HOLDER"
Congrats!

That's a blazer no matter the grade
Historically, I have stayed away from the shiny new stuff. However, this kid is something special! Ellly plays the game with an energy and passion not seen in decades. Only time will tell if he emulates greats like Mickey Mantle, Willie Mays, Rickey Henderson, Ken Griffey, Jr. and Barry Bonds who possessed the rare combination of speed and power….or if he will be the next Eric Davis and his aggressive style will shorten his career to what might have been status. Either way, I had to add this to my collection this month and enjoy the ride.
Man, Elly looks just like Eric. Loved Davis in the 80s, so I’m excited to relive it again…

PSA needs to do a better job of spelling out what “wear at a corner” means. Because it can mean anything from a barely noticeable touch (which this Mantle’s corners do have a couple of) to glaring dings and chips which seriously detract from eye appeal. All corner wear is not created equal, and should not impact the grade equally.
Nebulousness is required to maintain census medians.

Here is a PSA8 for comparison. No tilt. No print blemishes. No black dot on shoulder. There is a color registration issue with the yellow though. Any card can be a half grade or full grade off any given day, but yours is not an unfair 7.5, and I don't think it's a corner wear issue, as another poster seems to think.
Assuming both scans represent exactly what the card would look like in my hand, I would pick the 7.5 every time.
The PSA-8 is off-center in both directions. My PSA-7.5 is nicer than this PSA-8 example. The grades should be flipped…or if the PSA-8 were graded today…it is a PSA-7 all day.
I would never submit my PSA-7.5 for review when a grader can easily point to blemishes in the red background to justify the PSA-7.5 grade…the eye appeal though is exceptional for the assigned grade is what I was trying to communicate.
I’m personally skeptical that the “blemishes” are responsible for the grade. If so, it’s very inconsistent because there are plenty of 9s and 10s out there with fish eyes and other issues.
Great eye appeal on the 7.5, and centering, corners, and registration are excellent. Guess the minor corner touches and the white print marks above the M and bottom of the oval pushed it down a half grade. Still a strong card that would fit well into a high end Mantle run.
Slight bit of yellow on bottom and side of 7.5. Only yellow on the 8 is at the bottom. 7.5 has better eye appeal. No way the 8 would be graded the same today. (but still, both are nice looking cards.
This is such a classic card. Pleased to add another nice OPC card to my collection.

Nabbed a super fun pickup to kick off July. In all honesty, it just feels All-American, too, doesn’t it? I mean, what with the vivid colors, the familiar logos and three boys of summer on back and a general red white and blue color scheme, this really seems like the perfect pickup for the week of Independence Day…

I love the box...Oh Yeah...That's Cool...
A couple of odd ball highest graded just back from PSA. Redding Pop 3 and Posey Pop 4.
Buy the holder not the card, right? Just kidding, but got these for less than the grading fee would be.
They're huge! (added regular size slab for scale. I know, pics aren't great. I need a scanner)
Love oddball stuff.
@RonSportscards

Over the last several years, I've regretted selling my Roberto Clemente cards and I've slowly started to pick them back up. I just picked up this 1961 Topps PSA 8. I was in Pittsburgh little over 4 weeks ago and took a tour of the Clemente Musuem. It's a must for any baseball fan. They had an amazing display of a high-end Clemente collection that was on loan from John Demaria. I shot a video of the display, and I attached the video to my thread.

I've been trying to add to my Clemente collection the past few years too. I love that '61. It's just a cool portrait of the guy and one of my favorites. Very nice 8.
hey ChanceP,
Awesome 99...
Found a Bernie Williams autograph at Goodwill. I'm not a Yankees fan but I thought this was interesting as he became a recording artist after his baseball career. I don't know who the other autos are from - probably band members.
Wow! That's a beauty!
Decided to start the 1977 Topps Mexican Cowboys team set. There are 19 cards in all, here are my first two.

Agree....presents much better than a 3. Nice pickup!
Always liked the "Baseball Thrills" cards. This one looked like it would grade well, so I sent it in.
hey Chicago1976,
That's a Pretty One...
Grabbed a solidly centered OPC Thurm. My Topps 8 needed a Canadian friend.
Balco...
Two very gorgeous cards. The PSA-8 is exceptional for the assigned grade!
Loved Rocky....would love to see him in the hall someday. What a class guy. Still looks good too...
Picked up this Reardon RC, 4x All Star, WS Champ in 1987 with the Twins, Saves leader, 2nd all time in saves to Lee Smith when he retired. Sad story about his son's death and its impact on him. Glad to hear he seems to be doing well recently.
