I'm pretty sure it's not a strike through but I really don't know...

My first thought was struck through something very thin, my next thought was etched with some sort of acid somehow in that pattern.
I put it in acetone for 8 hours right after I found it and It didn't change it at all. These pics are after the acetone soak.
Thoughts?

Looks like it picked up toning from something made of rubber, or some type of foam ... face down, unmoving for long enough to impart the pattern
Not a strike-through

Have no idea, but it looks like some form of a tire tread.
Looks like it has been sitting on something that has transferred the design to quarter.
Technically it would be PMD.
Anyone remember a slabbed coin- perhaps a Barber half dollar- that has newsprint transferred to it? The letters were inverted yet could be distinguished.

I had a Washington Quarter that spent time in a bank envelope and picked up the bank name in reverse toning on the face. I have no idea if I still have it or if I saved any pictures, but the OP's coin likely picked up that pattern in the same way.

Looks like herringbone tweed. Maybe it sat in or on a jacket.
So it's etched/baked into the surface?
Now if we only had Artificial Intelligence downloaded into this system, it would give us "EVERY" infinite possibility of what that pattern is and where it may have come from... It's only a matter of time.

i have a peace dollar 23d i think it was in an attic lying on a piece of cloth or something but it imprinted on part of the coin a pattern of some sort. the coin is really nice and a high grade but has a design (looks like dirt but not) on it
I recall seeing a Franklin like that but can't find it at the moment.
I did find this thread with some other examples:

Looks like a design transfer - from cloth or paper - that the coin rested on for a very long time. Think about the cloth in a coin cabinet or the proverbial 'sock drawer' of a bureau. No numismatic premium. Cheers, RickO
