At Gettysburg today. May need to buy a commemorative.

Surprisingly, the LCS in Gettysburg didn’t have the commemorative half. CWTs were in a tucked away box and not front and center.

The battlefield is a powerful place to visit

Perhaps not a reason to buy a coin, but always a reason to remember those who paid the ultimate price for liberty and freedom and known but to God.

The Gettysburg commemorative half seems to me a perfect remembrance of the sacrifices made here.

Went there in middle school. Amazing place to visit. Want to go back.

Was there a couple years ago.

The history of the place definitely hangs heavy in the air.

It’s more touristy than I was expecting. I thought it would be very reverent and quiet but the town is very loud with blairing music and loud bikes.

Still nice though and good for reflection on what we have now and people went through.

It's actually less touristy than it used to be. I've been going almost every year for almost 30 years. A lot of the regular historical tourist stuff has been replaced by ghost tours though, so I wouldn't call it an improvement!

Don’t buy that one, you will most likely be disappointed when it arrives.

Thanks. That’s one of the many reasons I enjoy posting here. I thought she looked a little bit off. 🤠

The seller is notorious for selling harshly cleaned coins using overexposed photos.

The place really leaves an impression. You can almost sense their presence:

Gettysburg is one of my favorite places on Earth. As others have stated, you really feel a presence there. A remarkable and patriotic feeling.

OK, so here’s mine, a nice one. MS66 w/CAC. Not for those that like toning. Yes, it was dipped, but apparently gently enough that CAC still stickered it, due to its blazing luster in hand. I believe our friend @ricko will award it his coveted “Blast White” sticker!

I’m confident that Frank Vittor, the designer, would be smiling if he saw this specific coin today, as it still looks exactly as he envisioned it would look as it came off the press 86 years ago.

Those that collect Classic Silver Commems know that most of these have interesting stories. Here’s a tidbit on interesting dating:

    1. The coin is dated 1936, but they were minted in 1937.
    2. The purpose of this coin was to commemorate the 75th Anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg, which took place in 1863. As you can see, the 75th anniversary was in 1938. Go figure, lol.

I would avoid that one. It looks too bright. The Mint State examples have a frosty finish. I’ll post mine later when I am on my desktop.

Been there twelve years in a row. I will never tire of it.
The entire area including the town itself is a giant cemetery.
