Finally replaced my first Draped Bust Half Cent, an 1806 holed Half Cent.

This holed 1806 Large 6 W/Stems Half Cent was the first ever Half Cent, which I got out of a scrap box, just to have one. Then got hooked on them. Always kept it in my collection just because, but decided to replace it with this one.

Yes, we all have a few coins we’ve held onto, just because……And now you can pass the original one to one of the grandkids!

To give you a little history. In the early 1900s, the Chapman Brothers marketed a hoard of these coins. They had at least part of a keg of these coins. This large 6, with stems half cent variety is somewhat common in Mint State. On the other hand, when I was collecting these coins by die variety, finding an attractive circulated example of this variety was not easy.

This is a common variety, but nice examples in circulated grades are not easy to find. The Small 6, no stems variety is much easier to find.

Very nice, @jesbroken ! Thanks for sharing!

I am a newer collector (started April 2020), and I primarily focus on U.S. Half Cents and Type Coins. Early copper is my favorite.

A nice upgrade, however, the holed coin has sentimental value now, having been with you for so long... Keep it in the family. Cheers, RickO

Never heard of the BAM shop in Beckley. The only coin shop here, that I know of, is Joe Fama's Stamp and Coin Shop. I've known him for many, many years. What is BAM?

Brick and mortar. Joe’s shop was the one I was talking about.

Lol. I thought BAM might be Beckley Blank Blank. Drats I was hoping. Joe is a great guy. Spent many hours talking to him in his store.
