I like it as an MS61... However, if those are hairlines on the obverse, they may have 'details - cleaned' it.... Cheers, RickO
I’m jealous!
Beautiful piece.
Gold is soft. I think a 58 might have more abrasions. I say 62 or 63,
55, very nice!
Wonderful! 58
55 if graded a while ago. Maybe 58 if recent. Ooooooooooh so nice.

I’ll go 61.
AU-50 by wear, plus 2 points per century longevity points, plus 1 point for rarity points, so AU-55.

Gorgeous and what a rare date! I’m in the AU55 club.
AU 53.... but I'm thinking our host graded it lower.

@alaura22 We lose points for longevity. I'm down to VF already.

Nice pick up, whoa! I'm at 55 and if so with a bean.
I'm in the 55 camp also. Pardon my ignorance, but what denomination is the coin? I'm guessing it's a $10
Ms62 or au!
What a gorgeous piece
Love it. Ill guess 55 cac.

Definitely a sweet coin, and one I’m in the market for too!
I bounce back in forth on the grade, so I’m at 55-58.
Congrats!

The wear points for these are the tips of the feathers on the wings and tail on the reverse. For the obverse, the bottom of the bust and top of the cap. To make things more complicated, weakly struck coins can appear to have wear in those areas due to lack of detail. Notably some high mint state coins are flat in these areas.
This coin was graded almost 20 years ago now. Based on seeing many coins in hand, I’d say it would be a 58 today. As a dipped coin, possibly 62. A similar $5 I had in 58 CAC was dipped after I sold it, to a 62 non CAC. 58-62 range seems to be more about luster than wear on these coins.
No plans to play games with it, just to enjoy it.
great coin...i was between 55 and 58 but too late
i was at 55 as well. thats a beautiful coin
Wonderful coin. Thanks for sharing.

Love the purchase
Beautiful specimen @Proofmorgan
Will you continue on with Morgan’s as your primary collection interest?
I don't think I've had a Proof Morgan in over 10 years. I do plan to buy one that speaks to me as a type coin at some point.
