Question about Certified Double Mint Sets,

GRANDAMGRANDAM Posts: 8,576 ✭✭✭✭✭

I have been looking at ANACS Certified Double Mint Sets on eBay. My question is when were these graded? Is it recent are are these from years ago during the early days of ANACS when they had the small holders? All the coins are sealed in plastic holders as well as the original envelope. All coins have individual grades.
Some sets come with the original ANACS graded sheet but I don't see a date on it.
Here is an example of what I am talking about.

Thanks for the info and the link.

On the Web Site it says they verify that all coins are original to the set and have not been swapped out, how can they be sure of that?

That is an assessment based on the tone matching/being quite similar on all the coins but there is really no way to know for certain.

They, of course, can't be sure of that. They are simply using their experience in looking at original US mint sets to come to the determination.

It says that they started back in July 26 2016,
Not very recent unless I'm missing something

Well, when the question is posed as-

"Is it recent are are these from years ago during the early days of ANACS when they had the small holders?"

Then the answer is they are recent.

Years ago, I bought a 1952 double mint set that had had one 1952-S half dollars taken from it. These sets can yield very high grade certified Mint State coins that bring high prices. Not all of these mint set coins are deeply toned. If they are stored in the right environment, the toning can be light. That was the case with this set.

I purchased a replacement coin and put it in the set. After a few years, one could not tell that that piece was any different from the others.

In recent years I have been working on a set of British coins - at least one coin from each king or queen who issued pieces that are collectible. I am also collecting at least one coin for each Roman emperor from Julius Caesar to ... ?

Once the original mint sealed clear packet has been breached, a guarantee of originality cannot be supported. Cheers, RickO

1957 Mint Sets didn't come in plio-film, they came in cardboard holders inside a manila envelope.
