Jovita, born in Texas 1885, teacher, nurse, journalist, suffragist, activist for women's rights, spoke out about racism, and was one tough woman. She had to be, she had 7 siblings!!! She had a stand-off with the Texas Rangers who tried to shut down her newspaper! Notable quote: “when you educate a woman, you educate a family.” She passed in 1946.
Designed and sculpted by medalist John P. McGraw
I think this design is beautiful and the story behind this woman is inspiring. I'm voting it to be the best quarter in the series, at least so far! Release date August 15!

I can't wait for this one. Tons of open space in the field. Very unique design.
Interesting design for sure.
It will be interesting to see how the design looks when actually struck in quarter size. A daring design for the US Mint.
The simulated mock-up appears to be a proof version. I wonder how it will look quarter-sized and as a business strike. Regardless, she appears to have been a remarkable woman and the design is mighty cool.
In honor of the memory of Cpl. Michael E. Thompson
Which is accurate? Photo or coin? The proof shows a pointed chin and the photo shows a squared chin. Hope the engraver changes his work to reflect the person's photo. Nose is off too. Sorry, just say'n. Sounds like a wonderful woman.

Kennedys are my quest...
Beautiful...
I think it's one of the coolest designs ever. The mint is to be applauded for taking the risk and creating all that negative space.
