Post Your Early Proof Gold!

I was realizing - we don't have a thread of all of the early proof gold the forum has seen.
We've got some dealers and collectors on here with a few of these rarities. Past or present, if you have it and want to post it, please do so! I know we had almost a page on the CAC forums of proof $3s, so it would be super cool if we could do it here.
For the record, I'm defining early proof gold as anything pre-1933.

Wow, when you send ‘em, it’s a cruise missile!😂
That’s one big, beautiful coin.
Congrats on owning it!
There are 10 types of people in the world, those who understand binary and those who do not.
I generally don’t go for old holders and gold stickers but that’s quite a coin/combo you got going on there!
Beautiful proof gold coins.... Wish I had one.... Cheers, RickO
It’s like we’re building an 1866 proof set- here’s the $

WOW. @Floridafacelifter that 1866 DE is stunning.
All the coins posted so far are amazing, but the 1866 DE has me mesmerized.

Me to! It’s hard to believe those were produced in the wee hours after the end of the Civil War and are comparable to what’s coming from the Mint today!😳
If I could only pop in at the LCS and pick one up!😉
Unbelievable to think that DCAM Proof Gold pieces even exists … gorgeous! Proof Gold pieces just have a great look to them and they stop me in my tracks at any coin show browse floor.
Sorry to say, I do not own any early proof Gold Gold pieces, so I will just inject my none Gold Gold ... my Proof 1$ Gold piece – but struck in Silver. It may not have the eye appeal as those shared above, however, it is extremely rare.

Interesting to note that the dies match those of the 1867 circulation die strikes, not those of the proof dies. Evidence by the date position on the reverse, which is somewhat higher and more to the right on the Proof coins vs the general dies and the wreath top ends almost touch each other on this piece while there is a gap on the Proof dies.
Pedigree includes ( as noted in Heritage and USPatterns.com) :
William H. Woodin; & Waldo C. Newcomer; King Farouk; Palace Collections of Egypt Sale (Sotheby's, 2/1954), lot 1807; Kreisberg & Schulman Feb 1960 / Lot # 2440 ; Gaston DiBello Collection, Part II (Stack's, 5/1970), lot 480; William R. Sieck Collection (Bowers and Ruddy, 7/1981), lot 329, from Harry Bass. Core Collection, Heritage Jan 2023 / Lot # 9061
It is too bad the this piece had gone through King Farouk hands ...but it had.
One of only 2 known with the other in the Reed-Durham Heritage Museum.
This Memorial weekend, remember all those they gave the ultimate sacrifice say a Thank You to all serving and had served.

Very Nice!
Do you have an 1867 Proof $20, or an 1865 With Motto pattern? If so, could you please show them? There is a peculiarity on the word “IN” I would like to discuss.
I don’t have either- sorry!
Thanks.
Does anybody have an 1867 Proof $20 they can show, or an 1865 With Motto in any metal, or just good pictures you can post?
One from Coinfacts:

That works. Thanks.
Look at the position of the word “IN” relative to the one on the 1866 Proof above.
I saw it right after I posted the coin.
Redesigned master die, with the IN punched differently during production?

Two different “With Motto” hubs were made, one with a “High IN” and one with a “Low IN.”
At least one working die was made from both hubs, showing strong dual hub doubling on the “IN.” It was used in San Francisco. I am 99% sure it was in 1866, but am watching the Indy race and will check my notes later.
I published this a long time ago but it never got the recognition I thought it deserved.
Interesting ...I have this 1867 J-604 20$ Pattern (In Copper) (NGC63BN)

The only pieces I have. The 1836 Pattern gold dollar. This is the most common pattern gold piece.
An 1883 gold dollar.
Thanks.
Interesting that the off-metal Proof strikes are from a different Proof die than the gold Proof strikes.
here is mine:
Here is a picture of the 1865 With Motto pattern motto with the high "IN"

I misremembered on the 1866 $20 with the Dual-hubbed IN. It was an 1866 Philadelphia. Here is a picture from CoinFacts:

And since we have drifted away from early Proofs I am now going to start another thread and stop hijacking this one.

@steveben yours looks just like mine! Probably from the same die pair
