@TomB has given accurate information... Unless the coins are at the top of the grading range, they will not command much of a premium. The '64, being 90% silver will sell, the others I would just spend - or stack, hoping for some future major gain in melt prices. Cheers, RickO

Wait a minute, wait a minute! I just need a small clarification. Did you say; just spend the others??

Surely you can find a local buyer that will pay more than $0.50ea for 40% halves!

They sell pretty easily on eBay if you have an account. Try to sell them in larger lots so that shipping expense doesn’t eat up all your proceeds.

40% halves are worth good money, do NOT spend them. The silver content is about $3.50 each and they are widely collected for bullion and stashes.

The 400 Ag yes by what was mention before must be 3.47 $. In fact is minus 20% the refinery and add 20% who took them for refinery. So the price will be somehow 2$ to 2.5 $.

Only very high grade will be interesting and also a few of varieties.

Ricko...I'll take those nasty 40% silver halves off your hands for 3 x face. This way you don't have to go out & spend them. >:)

Wow!! Calm down guys.... Sure, the melt value has potential, but minor at this point - sometimes, the hassle of selling for such a minor gain, is not worth it.... That is why I said 'spend OR STACK!! My choice would be stack... but I can see spending a low grade one rather than the exercise of selling, shipping, insuring .... Cheers, RickO

  • lol... thanks Guys ai appreciate your Input.. so I'ma Go ahead and guess tlmy best option would be to To Spend Or stack..? basically Holdem till a rainy day. lol or Who knows maybe the price in silver will rise
? idk. that's why I put em up herem. to get ur help. but yeah thanks alot.. and if anyone is interested feel free to let me know I'll Holdem I guess.. but yeah thanks Again..

why would anyone sell silver coins to a refinery? That makes absolutely no sense. The BST is free and there are forum members that would step up to the plate with just a little discount under spot.

Anthony, melt on a 1964 Kennedy half dollar is around $8.50.
(The Current selling price for a 1964 half dollar averages 20 times face value because they are 90% silver)
The 1965-1970 melt value is about $3.50 are 40% silver, Not a sellable as 90% because it takes more time and effort to Refine 40% than 90%.

40% haves sell easily on ebay... there IS demand for them!! And getting $4 per coin or better is certainly worth it! No way would I be spending them, but to each their own.
