I don't think this "coin collector" would want to collect that way in Baltimore City today.

Imagine all of the silver coins in that huge container.

The photographer, A. Aubrey Bodine is the Ansel Adams of Baltimore and the Chesapeake, but not as well known.

If you believe many folks here nobody uses coins anymore, so he would not be "collecting" much.

We still have coin operated parking meters here in my village.... And someone obviously collects the coins periodically. Streets are always fully parked during the day and evening. Cheers, RickO

Was in Rutland VT about six months ago for work. Had some time to kill so I stopped at the local coin shop in the downtown area. I went to the parking meter and it cost a dime to park.

I suspect one would see more cents and nickels- But what a great great photo and Bodine is true legend. Look at the grills and one can identify the cars- looks as if we have a Cadillac looking at our right and a Buick to the left - the picture is likely from the 1954-55 time frame. Bodine really captures so much in one simple picture which is why he remains a photographer with a compelling following- even if it unfortunately remains at a regional level

One can also mention the etchings of Don Swann that captures so much of Maryland and DC.

Thanks for the walk down Memory Lane! Baltimore is my city and its good to know more of its history and the people who were there to document it. Certainly there are areas of any city where it's not safe... but, this event was held in the Mt. Vernon area (I used to live there too) and we never felt unsafe...
