COIN DIVISION?

Has anyone ever received a call from the E-bay "Coin Division"? This guy, don't remember his name, had my address and just wanted to send me a couple of business cards and maybe a call every now and then. Personally I think he must be an independent dealer. Sound familiar to anyone?

Never heard of that, I'd be suspicious.
As far as I know, there is no such thing as “eBay coin division”
Is there any special reason you would receive this? Do you deal with eBay
as far as buying or selling coins?
I would be wary if this was unsolicited. No reason for you to deal with him.
For me, a call like that has several 'red flags'...and I would not be giving out any personal information. He already has your number and address, be sure that is all he gets. Never heard of 'ebay coin division'. Might want to give the data when you receive it, to Doug Davis of Numismatic Crime Prevention for their files. Cheers, RickO
If there were a "Coin Division" at eBay, they need to hire some counterfeit detection experts. It seems that all of those people currently don't work for the company.
Someone else here reported getting a similar call several months ago.
I would ask him to send the information through eBay. If he asks your username or anything, you know it's a scam

Always good advice @ricko. I do buy coins on Ebay but have never been solicited in this way. When I get his info I will post it here for further scrutiny.

I NEVER volunteer any personal info. I will post HIS info when I get it.
As far as I know eBay has neither the time nor the manpower, much less the desire, to simply cold call people like that.
Why would he want to just "call you every now and then"? Is he lonely?
This definitely smells bad. My guess is some sort of scam. Did you happen to hear any background noise when speaking with him, like other people making calls as well?

Actually, eBay cold calls me once or twice a year. It's generally related to things like promotions or international shipping etc.
Hmmm. The only times we've ever been contacted were related to specific issues.

I think you misinterpreted the call. I would bet that the guy who called you is from a company that you purchased a coin from on eBay. That is how he had your contact information. He is trying to switch you from an eBay customer to a direct customer. That is why he is send you a business card, so you can buy direct.
I got a call from ebay one time about some missing payment. Asked about a password for payment as well
My answer "F. U. & hung up

If you want, I'll tell them to call you. LOL. I hate the calls...although maybe I enabled them somewhere. I should look. Only once did I ever learn anything from the calls.

I recently bought a 3 roll set of "Women in History" quarters and in the box was a note saying we could both save a little money in the future if I bought direct. The caller did not mention anything like this but I think it's very possible. As I said in my OP this is probably what is going on. But trust me, I am on "high alert".
I bought from Bullion Shark once and now they blow up my Email box and even call occasionally. Hmmm, am I sensing a pattern here?
No, I think it's legit. I'm from the ebay coin division myself, and I need you to send me your coins for safekeeping, just until they sell on the site. No need to worry, this is purely a safety precaution and it's a new policy, exclusively for your own security of course.
