May the 4th be With You... got any space related coins?

KurisuKurisu Posts: 2,021 ✭✭✭✭✭

I was 9 and my brother was 7 and remember waiting in the line going around the movie theater with my entire family and our other family, my parents best friends and their kids to watch it the day or the day after it came out.
Talk about a kid who got hit perfectly by the entire culture of it
It's still all some wholesome goodness for me.

Space related "coins" have always been a part of my collection since I started collecting about the same time Star Wars came out

I do not have any 'space' coins... Have been thinking about the moon landing coin though. That is a nice one, and I remember it well. Truly historic achievement. Cheers, RickO

I figured I’d come in this thread and see a bunch of Ikes. Not yet I guess. There’s still time. ;)

Does it count as a space coin if it cost "Moon Money"? :D

I got one of these 1 oz Niue Silver Moon Landing 50th Anniversary Coins for my daughter a couple of years ago. She has always been a fan of the Statue of Liberty and this coin has a capsule with actual copper from the Statue of Liberty that was flown into space on Discovery in 1985.

When the United States marked the 15th anniversary of the moon landing, the Statue of Liberty underwent restoration to preserve the structure. Actual copper from the statue was used to construct two 15-inch replicas which would later fly on the Discovery shuttle in 1985. One statue was later melted into centennial seals of Liberty, which have now been used in this exciting coin.

On the reverse of the 2019 1 oz Niue Silver Moon Landing 50th Anniversary Proof Coin is the image of the moon’s surface with the singular footprint of an Apollo 11 crewmember. The American flag is suspended in the background at full staff in the lighter gravity of the moon’s surface. The galaxy, a comet, and planet Earth are all visible in the background.

The obverse of 2019 Niue Silver Moon Landing 50th Anniversary Proof Coins features the right-profile bust of Queen Elizabeth II. This fourth-generation design from the Royal Mint of England was created in 1998 by Ian Rank-Broadley and has been widely used throughout the Commonwealth. Visible on both sides of the coin is an inset capsule with copper from those Liberty statues which went into space with Discovery in 1985.

No space coins for me, but a LOT of coins I’ve seen posted by forum members over the years are “Out of this world”. :D
