Grade finalization and encapsulation - how long does this usually take?

I thought that during the grading process, there were a couple of "graders" and one "finalizer". I would presume that the graders and finalizer would be in the same room/location. 🤔 Just shy of three months in the "scheduled for grading" que then who knows how long the finalization process is going to take. I am also going to presume that the TrueView images have already been taken or about to be taken prior to encapsulation. The waiting is really the hardest part for the submitter. Play the game.

I’m stuck at 8 weeks just in the encapsulation phase. It took 3 weeks prior to get to that point.

Another express order has been stuck solely in the QA phase for 9 weeks.

Did you at least know the grades? That is what I am really interested in on my crossovers.

Mine order has been in the grading phase since February 7th. I assume everyone available, including the front desk clerk is reviewing my coins, maybe even taking them home for the weekends to have neighbors guess the grades as well before they finalize them. :)

  • Apparently, it can take forever sometimes. I have four Ancients that have been sitting at NGC since January 12th, and strangely, they have already been (nicely) imaged. But STILL no grades or attributions!

No, I do not have grades on anything

I had a regular submission stuck in QA for 8 weeks. Rather than ship it out they moved it to imaging. It was in imaging 2 days. Grades were posted Tuesday late afternoon and the box was shipped Fed-Ex yesterday. Total from marked received 105 days.

Ten coins dropped off at the FUN show for grading, DM attribution, and TVs arrived back to me in less than 3 months.

Now I can't wait to start waiting again.

I submitted 5 common US medals that were received and logged in on Oct. 12th, and 20 more on Nov. 4th. After asking again, they said they would send a request to try to expedite them. Still in grading 5-6 months. My patience is almost gone.

I was told it can take 6-8 months to get them back, if you live in Asia and send coins into the Hong Kong office for grading, if you don't use express service.

My submission has been in the encapsulation phase since Feb 15th. I wish our host would explain why submissions are stuck in the encapsulation or QA phase for months. For many years the vast majority of delays were in the grading phase. I sure miss the days when a customer service rep would actually track submissions down and get them moving.

  • I sent three submissions, received by PCGS on March 7. One Express (3 coins), one Regular (10 coins), one Modern (23 coins).

Return times; Express took 2 weeks, Regular took 3 weeks, Modern took 4 weeks.

All coins only had TrueView added as well.

I am at 4 months on a regular for two coins, I had others go faster on the same shipment. They just popped out of encapsulation at 4 months on the nose yesterday. THey spent two months in that phase.

My Regular "Club" submission, received on 2/22, Encapsulation a week and a half ago, went into QA yesterday around noon, grades posted a few hours later, and shipping details posted a few hours after that! This morning, the True Views were ready!!

    Here is a tough one!

Congratulations and thanks for sharing! Some great Trade dollar varieties.
Perhaps you can convince your friend to publish his book.

Great coin! Also, that is a great turn around time with the variety attribution. I've submitted several variety T$s over the last 6 months and the attribution seems to add 1-2 months.

Do the grades become known once they get into QA?

    Short version - who knows?

However, so far my recent submission has been a much improved experience compared to 2021/2022.

My package arrived and was entered into the system. 2 weeks after being "received" my coins are "being imaged" and now in "grading." I have no idea if these labels reflect the underlying truth of the matter - but it seems like progress!

For mine, they always seem to wait until I give up and stop checking 50 times a day. My grades show up a couple of days after I give up.

My recent "Regular" submission was held up in QA for 9 weeks. Grades are posted the day they ship. Not before.

    Now they are being imaged.

The grading and labels have been through QA...where are the results?

The coins being imaged AFTER encapsulation?

If this is a crossover, this is good news. At least one successfully crossed at your minimum grade. “Being Imaged” never shows up if at least one coin didn’t cross. The results should be posted fairly quick now.
