There is a perfect little red penny inside this button. Looking through the plastic it appears perfect with a 10× loupe.
I don't want to remove it but do you think I should and have it graded?
It really doesn't have a mark on ot anywhere. I don't know if it's a 1909 or a 1909 vdb.
It's a pretty cool piece and I like it.

It is a 1909.... Cannot tell from the picture how it might grade, but likely will not be worth the investment. Others may have a different opinion. Nice piece of exonumia though... Cheers, RickO
I would keep it as is. That's pretty cool in that button.

Beautiful coin, but I would absolutely leave itin the button. Most of the time collecting should be more about history and education than about investment and profit.
Thanks for sharing.
That is an incredible piece of exonumia that will hopefully find its way to a collector of such things.
There is no guarantee that the reverse of that cent isn't damaged either from a glue or an acidic backing.
Probably worth more just how it is.

I will definitely keep it in the mirror. The mirror is great to.
I agree with the history.
I don't collect coins to try to make money.
I would likely not money anyway.
That's a cool piece!
Don't try to remove it.
If you wish to sell it, do not remove it.

Coins mounted in these devices are usually damaged on the edge. Therefore they are often not gradeable. There is an active market for encased cents, and this one at 100+ years of age would be a good one. Leave it where it is.
To answer the title:
Yes
Also, i agree with leaving it as is

This was in fact the Union Stock Yards
Construction began in June 1865 with an opening on Christmas Day in 1865. The Yards closed at midnight on Friday, July 30, 1971, after several decades of decline during the decentralization of the meatpacking industry. The Union Stock Yard Gate was designated a Chicago Landmark on February 24, 1972,[7] and a National Historic Landmark on May 29, 1981

I think it looks just fine the way it is
that side looks red, but you can not see the reverse that could be anything
That's nice! I wouldn't mess with it.
Very COOL !
Does the frame reflect the same period as the coin ?
If so...
History, History, History, should demand, if graded, put the whole deal on ice.
Less typing.
I have others but this one is exceptional.
It looks perfectly preserved for 114 years old.
Perhaps you should see if PCGS will encase this in an oversize slab........They have a "special" right now on overszed slabs.
OINK
Very cool piece of exonumia... as others already said, I'd keep it as is and there could very well be edge damage if you tried to remove it.

I curious how PCGS could slab this without seeing the reverse.
That would be interesting.
Very nice item - As others have stated: leave as is.
