I believe the the “VF” portion of the grade constitutes a mechanical error. The value of the coin is irrelevant with respect to the question that was posed.

I think the OP is wondering if he should alert Ian to get the slab corrected by PCGS before the auction ends? Probably would be a good idea, as GC does a good job in representing accuracy in their auctions.
Who came up with the silly term of "mechanical error" which implies a machine malfunction? It's not like a robot is doing their data entry. Let's start calling it what it is---it's a "human error" and also a failure of quality control.

I'm not a grader. This coin isn't better then VF??
It’s clearly better than “VF”, which is why I previously posted that I believe it qualifies as a mechanical error. The coin looks as if it should have been graded “UNC Detail”, not “VF detail”.

That coin appears better than VF.... and, I agree with @PerryHall, a labeling error really is human error.... At least until the input/results are done with AI....if ever. Cheers, RickO

Are you asking if the mechanical error is the "VF" grade?
Terrible image! Not sure it looks VF though...
The "Detail Grade" should be at least AU.
