The waiting room did nothing for these issues. The reason you were able to get in and out so easily was because the issues were available on Advance Release to the Bulk Buyers for the first time, so you were not competing with them.

It also didn't sell out. So the old system would have also worked fine.

You are both correct. Advance release took away a lot of the traffic and the waiting room made the system more orderly for the remaining buyers. Also just the threat of the Waiting room probably reduced the traffic. The real test will be for a very highly desirable, limited edition with HHL of 1 and no advance purchases for anyone.

I am NOT disputing your point about customer volume. The new system will prove its worth, or fail, during a 'hot' release. And this did not turn out to be a 'hot' release.
At the time of this post:
~ Proof-W (23EA): 96,464 available via the website;
~ Congratulations Set (23RF): 17,446 available via the website.
That said, while it appears that the AR version of the "congratulations set" debuted this year, the regular Proof-W issue has been available as an AR in prior years.

Perhaps. All I know is that no one could go in right away at noon. There was a wait, but, once in, everything was perfect because they had capacity to handle everyone who was granted admission.
That's the evidence that it works as intended. Sure, with more demand, there would have been a much longer wait, and everyone might not have gotten in before sell out. But that's not the point.
The point is to stop the horror show of people slamming the site and being repeatedly kicked out until sell out. Now, admission is controlled on the front end, and once you are in, you have a very good chance of completing a transaction. Unless you don't get in until just before sell out.
The fact that you might sit in a waiting room for an hour and then learn the item is sold out is the luck of the draw, but at least you won't be repeatedly trying to complete a purchase while bots are beating you to the punch.

It worked. For a "hot" release, people will be pissed because they will be locked in a waiting room and won't get out before sell out. But those who do make it in will be able to complete their transaction without incident. That's what this is supposed to solve, and it will.
It's not going to address the "fairness" of who gets a front row seat in the waiting room. THAT will either be randomized at noon among everyone who is waiting at that time (hopefully) or will be determined by just when you enter, without any visibility into how early that can possibly be. At least until we figure it out, like 7:30 a.m. random availability sales. Then it will just be a stupid race to see who can get in ASAP once the door opens.
Well... seems the waiting room worked... That is a positive sign. Next we will see how it fares on a super hot item. Not sure there is one this year.... Cheers, RickO
The new Morgan’s and Peace Dollar are available on enrollment. Heck, even the highly prized 2- coin set. 🙀
Yup. They apparently got the mintage about right and killed the flip. I'd still bet the 2-coin set will sell out, but, at a mintage of 250K, it's not going to be the home run people want.
OTOH, the irony of the home runs is that everyone who wants to play cannot, so then they have that to complain about. Personally, I think the Mint is doing the right thing by adjusting mintages to approximate demand, allowing everyone to get what they want without either creating windfalls for people running bots and enterprising flippers among us, or totally destroying aftermarket values by not limiting mintages at all.
Here we are at almost evening of the second day of release and you and everyone who wants a regular W proof, or waited to think about it, can still, at this very moment, buy a dozen or what ever they might like 😁🙀

Not from the Mint, if that's important.
???
The "regular W proof", 23EA, is still available from the Mint website, and has no HOL.

Out of 40K, that's HUGE!!!! A big dealer must have cancelled, for that quantity to just pop up out of nowhere, as opposed to a handful trickling out at 7:30.

That's what I was thinking. There were 16,000 +/- the morning after the on sale. It went dark (remind me) shortly after the hhl was lifted, now some 27% of the total production is available again? I wouldn't think the USM would be happy with that kind of cancellation.
The only other question I had was if the total available first day was the 40k or if they held some back.

My understanding was, that 25k where available in the initial offering. I might be wrong, but it appears to be the case.
Edited: Further investigation indicates that my original guess is wrong. It appears that a large cancellation had to occur. See the below US Mint sales figures as of 3/5

In and out of the waiting room in less than 2 minutes. Got the proof W ASE and the Congratulations ASE. Checked out and on the way.
Very easy. Got two and logged out. Logged in and didn't even see a waiting room again.
No quick sellout
Good. Collectors get what they want. The telemarketers will scoop up what's left tomorrow.
As of 12:45pm EST.........19,448 Congratulation sets remain unsold.
edited to add: last year's mintage was 30,000 sets, this year it's 40,000.

If I’m deploying a new software solution, I don't deploy it during the most critical time. I test it out with a non-critical use first.

The question is would I have gotten a v75 AGE coin with this system had it existed in 2020?
Guess I will just wait it out and see how it performs when the Morgan and Peace proofs come out
