1830 Bust Half - 1864 2 Cent + trime

Recently bought the bust and 2 cent off a member here. Walkerguy21d, he has a great eye for coins. I Love these ones. My collection is growing!
Purchased the trime off the bay. Didnt have one, never saw one in person. I cant believe how small it is.

3 very cool coins!
Tonedeaf is a nickname given to me in reference to my guitar playing ability.
Very nice coins, though what’s that green stuff on the trime? Maybe a soak of acetone can remove it.

Okay, I'm going to call it like I see it.
All raw for a reason, and not great reasons ... based on my opinion of images.
I thought you were off to a good start based on this thread. https://forums.collectors.com/discussion/1088067/i-think-i-figured-out-how-i-want-to-collect#latest
I think I am going to be proven wrong. Good luck out there.

I take it that you’re of the opinion that the Bust Half and Two Cent Piece have been cleaned and that the Three Cent Silver has environmental issues?

@Shane6596 if your happy with your purchases do not be discouraged. I imagine you bought what you could afford and that you are happy with them. If you decide to soak any coin in acetone remember do not wipe it. Soak it overnight then fold it over into a paper towel and apply a bit of pressure being sure not to wipe it. If the gunk does not come off roll a qtip soaked in acetone over the surface.
To do otherwise will leave hairlines.
BTW you don't need to prove anything to me. Just have fun and don't overpay.
I'm sure you were treated right on your bust half because you bought it from a forum member.
Your collection will grow in time!
The two cent piece is NOT cleaned, it is a very nice original piece, lustrous with slight traces of original red that are hard to see in the pics. There are some later die state rim cuds as well.
The op was looking for a budget bust half with lots of detail.
This is my description of the one I had that met the price point:
It does show some glossiness in the obverse fields, no idea why. The high points and wear points don’t show it. And there’s plenty of original dirt around the stars etc, so I don’t want to try any kind of conservation myself.
It came from another forum member at least 12 years ago:
These were all in the process of being purchased when i posted that thread. I wasnt going to back out of a deal because i changed my collecting strategy. I will still be buying raw coins when i see something i like.
Im now onto the slabbed types as my main collection
I guess ill have 2 types of collections, or donate part of my raw collection to a family member that shows interest.

The Two Cent Piece looks much better in your images, as the ones posted by @Shane6596 made the color appear blatantly unoriginal. The Bust Half looks cleaned in both sets of images, but that doesn't really matter if both parties are happy with the transaction.

@Shane6596... Nice raw coins. Nothing wrong with buying raw from trusted sources and if you like them. When I started collecting, raw coins were all that was available. It is a hobby, have fun.... Cheers, RickO
Mark, yes. Cleaned, cleaned and ED. At least from the images posted last night.
@Walkerguy21D Didn't mean that to disparage the coins you sold. The picture you posted makes me rethink the 2c as a good coin. I understand your comments in all cases and I apologize.
Finally @Shane6596 Like a lot of new members, we love your enthusiasm. I believe I have even commented on that to you before. But whether you buy 5. coins or 5000. coins, I would hope you look back at these later and say, yes, those we good coins for me, at least at that time. I studied, and listened and bought something worthwhile for what was available.
I didn't think (again first images and the excited tone of your post) that would be the case. I stated it poorly.

Thank you, Todd - this highlights an issue I have raised previously. Most of us aren't particularly good or great at coin imaging. So when those of us who aren't, post images, we should strive to let viewers know how a coin's appearance differs from our images. Because if the images don't look like the coin, in most cases, any feedback will be largely meaningless.
