How is this even possible

PSGS population explosion in last 4 years of a 1889S $10 Lib!
6/19/13 auction of a 1889 S Lib Eagle 20 in 64, 1 64+, 1 higher per HA auction
1/15/18 auction of a 1889 S Lib Eagle 21 in 64 ,1 64+, 1 higher per HA auction
2/17 22 auction of a 1889 S Lib Eagle 80 in 64 , 64+ not sure, 1 higher
Today 84 in 64, 5 64+ 1 higher
How can you have a 4 fold increase in 64s in a 4 year period from 2018 to 2022. That is crazy to me.
Is this the Fairmont hoard? Here is a random cert. Any thoughts on why?

Probably a mini-hoard (not Fairmont) turned up.
Something like that happened with the 1912-S Liberty "V" nickels when an original uncirculated roll was discovered and submitted.
Just made some good money on my 63CAC. Good timing on my part I guess. That is alarming without an explanation
Nice little windfall if someone uncovered a roll of $10 Libs ; very consistent grades
We’ll probably never know. Stacks is tight lipped about the contents and origins of the Fairmont hoard and coins from the hoard were not all sold with Fairmont Collection on the label.
Winning number - 1933 fwiw 🙂
Hopefully not a stupid question, I get 1933, what is fwiw?
for what it's worth
Worry is the interest you pay on a debt you may not owe.
"Paper money eventually returns to its intrinsic value---zero."----Voltaire

I was thinking a roll of 1933 Indians, fwiw (sorry for any confusion) 🫣
No worries jw. That's what questions are for best wishes
I am not going to go dig out the APR's which should be a better gauge but the PC price guide history indicates that the 64 dropped from 3750 to 2750 until the recent increase that has occurred on many. The 64+ from 6K to 5K.

Now that is data that makes sense!
Sarcastically.... crackout rampage!
Paper money eventually returns to its intrinsic value. Zero. Voltaire. Ebay coinbowlllc
1650 survivors in 60 or better.
Dealer/seller nightmare when this happens... In that quantity, it is not crackouts

I've said it before and will again.. this is why you don't pay silly premiums based on population in XX grade. One collection or hoard dump and you lose big.

Just a thought, could the Saddle Ridge Hoard have something to do with it? Not sure how many 89 s eagles were in the bunch.

this was double eagles not eagles
I dont know about fairmont specifically, but stacks has been doing a tremendous job at slowly bringing it out. There are many coins I bought in round 1,2,3,4,5,6,7 etc... that were great coins that just getting higher and higher pops. Some dates/grades you see once every 5-10 years and here you were getting 2-5 in a 2 year span
That's what I was thinking. Maybe a couple collectors shooting for that 10x to 20x price increase a Top Pop would yield.
Not entirely.

Collectors will continue to pay silly premiums based on pops.
That will never change, in spite of possible mini hoards.
Unfortunately you are likely correct- although I cannot "fathom" how said premiums will ever be recovered.
