New Game. Under, Over or Just Right.

We do guess the grades all the time. I was thinking of a new game were you post a coin with the given grade. Folks could then give their opinion on the assigned grade. You could also give opinions on cameo full head or any other aspect of the coin. For copper coins color designations could also be discussed. I think it might be fun and a great way to learn. I will start with this coin. As members comment you can discuss and provide your in hand opinions.

I don’t like the pink look. I say over because of that.
I say over but not because of the luster. Looks to me like there is some corrosion at the die flaw in B of LIBERTY and a handful of spots that take this out of the 65 category for me.

What is going on with the "B" in LIBERTY? It also appears to have picked up some dirt and marks from handling on the obverse hair and the reverse shield.
I would grade it MS64 RB.
Rick Snow says it is a strike thru and I agree. The strike thru is not as dark in hand and is barely noticeable with out a glass. The lighting seems to make it appear darker. I should probably not blow these coins up the size of a dinner plate as it really emphasizes any minor flaws. In hand I think it is under graded. (Ownership adds a point.) I will include this coin in my next shipment to CAC.
Also the coin is really Orange. I do not see a pinkish look. This kind of feed back really makes me look at my coins harder. I think it will be really helpful. Thanks!
I'm not one to argue with Rick Snow, but I'd like to see bolder diamonds on the coin.

"Sou Mangueira......."
About right.
Here are Ricks photos of the coin.
It's about right. It's a 65 not a 70. Of course it has a few flaws.
Agree with the Color and like the fields. Too many distractions for me (the Struck thru B, the doubling on UNITED STATES and the growth on the E in CENTS). 65C (no CAC)
Interesting that I've acquired an eye for grade details because of what I've learned here.

I feel over, but out of respect to Rick, which I have a lot, I will stand by his call. I think the feathers, the strike thru, if that is what it is, the facial discoloration will prevent it from CAC bean.

All the closeups make it look MS64, the slab shot says MS65, so I'll split the difference and say just over with my grade MS64+

Over.
I agree with the grade and color designation ... I also think it will get a green bean. Be sure to let us know. Cheers, RickO
Tough crowd. Just right! a few innocuous reverse spots don't bother me much.

I think some answers here would be different if OP had just posted the first two pics without mention of the grade.
I'm willing to bet most here would not pay 65 money for this coin if it were raw.

Agree with Ricks grade.
I am going to address other aspects of the coin.
For me, the first thing I address is whether or not I would purchase a coin regardless of the assigned grade. If the answer is yes, then I examine the coin to decide if I am OK with the assigned grade and then I address the price.
As for the coin in this thread, this coin has too many distractions for me to purchase regardless of the assigned grade.
Joe.
Excellent comments. The PCGS guide price for the coin is $700 and I paid $600. I thought I got a great deal and still do. I really like the coin. Judging from some comments maybe I got the coin just right or overpaid in some opinions. It is very helpful to me and hopefully others to hear the varying opinions. It definitely make me look at the coin in different ways which I think is good. The coin is really a looker in hand but with some issues. That probably is why I was able to get it at what I consider a great price. I would have paid PCGS guide if I had to.
I will post another coin in this format later and see what kind of comments it gets. It has been educational for me so far.
Rick didn't grade it.

I'm not a fan of grading coins based on pictures.
If you are willing to pay CAC $35 for their opinion, be sure to politely ask them if they kindly would advise whether it's an "A" or a "B" coin or why it did not pass if that's the case. The not passed reasons are not necessarily what you think they are.

The coin is back and it did receive the Bean.
