1814 fifty cents... GTG... revealed
Went to the local show after 3 years absence. Its a show where generally only a couple dealers have anything out if the ordinary...
So imagine my surprise when I ran across @coinlieutenant set up there for his first time!
Took a minute to put face to name but very psyched to meet the man in person at last, and even pick up a cool bust half fresh from the @fishteeth collection.... score!
(will do a separate gtg with that if I can manage an acceptable pic. )
The other big surprise was this coin...
One of my favorite varieties and one I've been chasing for many years... as a few here on the board know all too well 😅
The Overton is not a difficult one to identify, but feel free to add that to your guess if you like ..

Very Nice! Love that variety and die state. How was the show? I couldn't make it today but hope to get over there tomorrow. Am really looking forward to hitting the Lt's table.
VF-35 lovely 106a! I like the weakness in the cap, it accentuates the reverse die break.

As has been said O-106A. Currently listed as DS 106.3 (there's nothing further).
Grade? Hmmmmm ... VF30?

You know, it was cool to be back... pretty tiny show, as you probably know but thinking back, it's remarkable how many cool deals I've stumbled upon there over the years...
This coin was almost too weird.
I did a quick run through and it seemed very unlikely that anyone was going to have any decent bust halves, and them pow, there it was!
106.3...?
Leaving room for some yet to be discovered ultraLDS??
Oh, recovered my password and now have a copy of the book on the way!

Dave, maybe you should post an XF since we seem to be getting a few guesses...
And this one is really just a place holder 😅
I believe that we will uncover more Die States as the next few years roll by. Either by understanding of progression, resulting in new intermediate states, or with new latest known Dies States (kind of like my 13-101a / 101.3).
Kewl deal on the book. I'll be interested to what you know that we don't have in there ... yet!

to me it looks 40 but I think the assigned grade is 35. Looks like the rev die was falling apart. really cool!
Tough but I’m at 40. Nice one.
VF35.
Love that crack!

BHNC #248 … 130 and counting.
The 30's had it!
If I could have been picky, I guess I would have asked for a 35 with some retained luster and a bit of color, but...
This one is a total keeper!
It's sharp with great details, but not really a bit of luster on it, and thus not ever going to go XF imo.
Just filled my second box of 10 for this cbh project, early date LDS pieces, mostly in choice VF. Trying to get as many of the big cracks as I can 😅
Perfect look!

Regardless of the grade @jayPem she’s a beauty of a REALLY cool die marriage and die state!
My O.106a PCGS XF40 happens to be one of my favorite coins in my collection due to all the cool clashes and the LDS with all the cracks fully formed.
Dave
@drddm-that one is really nice and I would have graded it higher.
jaypem-my first reaction was xf-40. I love the piece.

I really like this coin….if you decide to sell this, you need to contact me….
@jayPem ... Nice find... Late to the game, but was thinking 35.... Neat die cracks and clash... Cheers, RickO
