V nickel Proof

I have been thinking about a proof for a long time since all I own are business strikes. It's hard to believe, but through all my years of assembling V nickel sets, I have never owned a single proof. Well, I finally found one that I really liked. I have a thing for the year 1899, and came across this one that ticked off all the boxes for me. PCGS graded, in PF65, and it even has a Trueview already! The weird thing is that the Trueview image looks much different from how the coin actually appears in hand. I like both looks, but the guy at PCGS that does the Trueviews really knows how to manipulate the lighting for the best effect!

Yes. The TV is taken of a raw coin so there is no problem with plastic glare and more opportunities on lighting come into play. I have noticed just what you mentioned when viewing some Morgan or Trade dollar proofs with toning. Often much darker in hand. Now to try and see some or even all of the color you can try viewing the coin with the light in a glare type position and move around. This getting the light to reflect off the coin into the eye see the colors better. Can even try a photo with glare in it. Sometimes can adjust light location and then have the camera catching the reflection but the camera will not be square to the coin and get some of it. Then times it may not work so well. Just kind of depends on the individual case.

That is a beautiful coin.

I bought 2 lower grade, raw v nickels, just to have and look at for now. Might build a set eventually. They are a nice looking coin.

The in-hand image looks like a very well struck business strike, but the Trueview shows a gem Proof.
