I was going to purchase a Morgan Proof

I understand this is not a proof.
I thought about this for a long time. I had a very large group of Morgan's. I decided to sell them to pursue my WLH collection.
I still love Morgan's and wanted to purchase a proof so I would have one Morgan to treasure and enjoy. After weighing all the factors out I decided it would be more economical for me and satisfy my need for one exceptional Morgan to enjoy. I do have a few PL from my original group that I held back but nothing like this.
When I tell you I can see two feet away from these mirrors I am not exaggerating. Plus it's a CC which I happen to like.
I'm very happy with it. I wanted to share it with you guys.
Edited to add: "I understand this is not a proof". I figured I had been make that perfectly clear. I never did.

Not offering an opinion of the coin, but it's not a proof, and ANACS doesn't claim it is.

Does UDM stand for Ultra Deep Mirror?

I understand and thank you. I honestly never thought it was a proof. Three mints produced proofs I believe, PA, N.O. and 1883 CC proof. CC only produced 12 of them. I will definetly never have one if those.
I weighed out the difference and figured this would be a more economical choice for me. Maybe someday I will buy a cameo proof.
This will do just fine for now.

@Namvet69 you are correct sir. UDM does stand for "Ultra Deep Mirror".

ANACS "UDM" is equivalent to PCGS "DMPL" I believe. That is a true stunner of a Morgan! I think most people appreciate a really PL Morgan. They are head turners no matter what, and that one is a monster!

Edit: That old ANACS holder has seen better days. Have you thought about crossing it to PCGS?

It is a level beyond DMPL. ANACS also has a DMPL designation but for extra deep coins they use UDM.

Nice coin - common date but not that common in higher grades and without a lot of bag marks - so it’s a great coin

It’s funny what different people find desirable to collect. Proof Morgans are generally not rare and many show every hairline unless in pristine condition. If I were to collect only one Morgan, I would aim for a high-grade piece with frosty luster.

I always thought I'd save up and buy a proof Morgan, but a friend offered me an 1880 S DMPL that is so nice, I decided it was close enough to a proof to satisfy my longing for a proof.....for now anyway!? I've actually had it over a year and since then my friend passed away, so now it's kind of a memorial as well.

In my opinion, buying a DMPL (UDM) business strike is a far better idea than buying a hairlined proof Morgan dollar. Not only is the business strike coin almost certain to have far more eye appeal, it is also likely to do far less damage to your wallet and be more liquid in the future.
