Bought this 1935-S Peace Dollar for $48

May have overpaid, but I’m thinking cleaned? Can’t tell entirely, but I’m happy with it either way. Do you guys feel it’s cleaned?

I'm with you, I can't tell either.
I don’t see any obvious signs of cleaning but i’ll defer to others with expertise. I guess AU53, which would make it a very good value if problem free.
I don't think it has been cleaned. It looks like honest wear to me, and mid AU (53/55) so it's worth at least twice what you paid, IMHO.

Improperly cleaned, I'm guessing, but worth $48.
My guess is based partly on your paying only $48 for it.
For a 35S you did good, even if AU details.
Great purchase, I would feel that whoever sold it to you thought it had been cleaned. Good buy.

I think the details (see what I did there?) look cool, even if cleaned… the high parts are shiny while the low parts are almost frosted
I bought it from Fort Worth Coin Co… I love going there because they have pretty good deals and fairly priced coins
Are these your photos or the sellers?

Mine… I bought it from my LCS
Cleaned imho
Looks cleaned, but you got a good deal on the price, so I think you did just fine.
Cool, just something to keep in mind, it is easier to see the coin's surfaces outside the 2X2, the plastic can cause reflection and obscure things that might otherwise be clear. As it is your coin in your possession taking photos out of the holder might be better when you are asking the group to evaluate a coin, obviously that would not be possible if these were the seller photo. Just food for thought.

Hard to be sure but the coin looks like it spent a little too much time in the E-Z Zest before picking up some grey-brown secondary toning. The ding at 11:30 obverse is also unfortunate, but overall it's a nice details coin, and the price doesn't seem out of line.

Looks like a nice Peace dollar, but not sure how much the plastic and how much is the surface of the coin.... Clear pictures out of the 2x2 would allow for a better evaluation. Cheers, RickO
Looks Ok to me - nice coin to have, congrats -super pickup. Always a high demand date. One of my favs.
It’s a looks like a nice AU would price at $140 to $150 based on CPG. Would go in my raw coin collector album (in 2x2) I have at shows I setup at. With just $48 cost in it would do well on it (plenty room if negotiation w buyer) - sweet. Many want this date for their sets or dollar stockpile. Many times I get higher margin on the raw stuff than the graded material. Then go to the wholesalers table (slabs) pick out something nice. Then to snack bar free dealer coffee & doughnuts or pizza enjoy the coin show food.
Old cleaning perhaps
You did good.Don’t think you over paid
Glad to see you are still staying with the forum... despite some initial threads that took some wrong directions!
Dollar is likely cleaned to some extent (given the angle of the photo, lighting, etc), on the higher relief central points. But... as others said, you did okay for the price. Looks like it does have some luster remaining?
He hasn't been back since that other thread. This post was at the same time as the other 3
I’ve been here.. just thought it better to keep my mouth shut
Glad to see you're still around.
Don't feel like you can't post. It can be a bit of a tough crowd but we mostly mean well.
The problem isn't you... it's us... and other people who came before you. A lot of people jump on here with a coin or two and then get mad if we don't love it as much as they do. Unfortunately, that creates the tendency to put people into boxes they may not belong.
You did well on the nickels. You may love them more than we do. But i don't think anyone thinks you didn't do well. And that 13S should pay for the whole set by itself, with lunch money left over. If it is better in hand, dinner as well.
Well, my most recent responses may not have been the greatest but I still feel they need to be shared in the “mods please close this post”
Hard for me to say, but it looks like honest wear to me. Nice coin for the price.
I am a newer collector (started April 2020), and I primarily focus on U.S. Half Cents and Type Coins. Early copper is my favorite.

Yup.... missed that!
4 ray reverse.
Are those more common, more rare, or about the same as the 3 ray reverse?
@EZV —There is nothing wrong with revealing the price of your coin the way that you did it here.
I admire that ease which which you demonstrate your decision. I learned something in this thread, as well.
What makes the forum fun is that it is ACTIVE. Probably the most active of any in thos hobby.
I dont think we want to run anybody off that is interested in posting to threads in a respectful way.
The Peace dollar is ok for the price, but I suspect some environmental damage to be revealed outside of the flip. It has a granular look, especially on the reverse.
I wouldn't look for great "deals" at the local shop. They have overhead and usually don't overlook many coins that leave money on the table.
The exception would be hunting for rare die marriages, doubled dies, and repunched mintmarks, etc. Alot of dealers aren't aware of these.
Good luck
