Planchett flaw or rim damage?

A friend sent this coin in to NGC and they called it rim damage. He thought it was a planchett flaw. Unfortunately it is no longer in my posession, but I do have some photos from before it went in, and NGC phtotos.
Is this worth resumbitting to PCGS as a planchett flaw, or do you agree with NGC? I know you can't see the edge angle, but from what you can see? Even if it is a planchett flaw, it looks possibly cleaned to me anyhow, which would still result in a details grade either way if it is?
Thanks!

This looks like the rim damaged area.

Agree and here are some enlargements. The obverse looks out of round also.

I agree it's damage and would not resubmit it.

Thanks. I'll let him know not to waste his money on resub.

That coin was whacked on both sides. There is a deformity in the rim at stars three and four in front of the portrait as well as stars twelve and thirteen behind the portrait. It is the first thing I noticed about the coin when the images came up. That is not a planchet issue.

There is definitely a post-Mint cut on the reverse, if that metal were missing pre-strike the obverse denticles would be much weaker in that area opposite the cut.

Good info. I'll pass it on. Thanks!

That is not always true - be careful.

Maybe true but since in this case ngc has already decided it is damage, I think it's safe to say probably true in this case?

It appears that the reverse rim was also filed after being banged up.

One more vote for rim damage.... Too bad we do not have a picture of the edge, I am sure that would be supportive as well. Cheers, RickO
I'll encourage him not to try again. I had the same thoughts but I don't deal in errors so appreciate the feedback.
