Dang, this is turning out to be one heck of a thread. Started off raining here in CC today but has transitioned to snow as the temp dropped just about an hour ago.
Pretty cool --- literally.
There is always Lake Tahoe and Virginia City as day trips if the time allows.
South Lake Tahoe in the winter is my favorite place on Earth.
I call these a rusty die reverse but have never confirmed that is what is going on, on the eagle.
My 20 year old snap-o'matic camera pictures. I actually cropped them this time.
Bought this raw on eBay over a decade ago (what was I thinking?); obviously dipped but no other signs of a cleaning. Since these photos were made has darkened up a bit with storage in an envelope.
Well today is my last day in CC, headed out early Friday morning, and I finally managed to get down to Northern Nevada Coin.
They were busy but not crazy busy. I think they were helping 2 or 3 folks when I arrived and another 1 or 2 came while I was doing my thing. Good to see customers at LCS's. They didn't have too much in the way of half dimes so no luck there.
I'd checked out their website earlier this week and made note of a few coins I'd like to see in person. My first, an 1875 CC 20¢ was unfortunately at one of their other locations so no-go with that one. Second was a really nice 1872 2¢ in NGC AU58. I really did like this coin. It had the look I want and was solid for the grade IMO. But, it was NGC and I know I'd end up sending it to our hosts eventually and although I'm sure it would cross, it seems like I nearly always cross coins from NGC to PCGS and lose a grade level in the process. I just didn't want to deal with getting back a 55 coin that I felt was a 58 so I passed. I may live to regret that but hey, c'est la vie.
The last coin caught my eye in a dangerous way when she handed it to me. I knew it would be nice from the pics but this thing blew my head off. For quite some time now I've been thinking of adding 1 example of a DMPL Morgan to my box of 20 collection. In the back of my head I was thinking I'd look hard for one at the Money Show coming up. Well, I'm now free to look for other things in Phoenix lol.
If you're going to get a Morgan at Northern Nevada Coin it really needs to be a CC coin right? I mean, come on....it's just gotta be. While the 83CC isn't rare with 1.2+ million minted I think this one (MS66) makes up for it a bit by only having 20 DMPL's at PCGS grading higher (how many more at NGC?). The mirrors on this thing are just plain ridiculous, I really don't know how else to describe it. I seriously jacked up my vision for a minute by accidentally reflecting the viewing lamp bulb directly into my eye with the mirrors on this coin (while looking through a loupe even lol). The small amount of gorgeous tone on both sides was icing on the cake giving it that bit of individuality from the myriad of other DMPL's that are blast white while and at the same time not being insanely colored to the point of being distracting.
BTW, it took every bit of discipline I had not also walk away with 1 of the cool Perth Mint 1oz AU square ingots they had. Damn those little guys are neat.
All in all, super nice people, great shop with killer inventory and I walked away happy with what I think will be a perfect addition to the box of 20. If you're ever in the area I highly recommend stopping by.
Snuck a pic of the store front
Carson City Mint directly across the street from the coin shop. I love that the coin I got was struck feet from where I got it.
That is a beauty. Congrats and right across from where it was made. Wow! You should take it with you on a tour of the facility, should there be one, just to let it see it's home one more time. lol I've been after another nice DMPL Morgan for a while also. Just never been in my price range at the time.

I like Capital plastic holders, lowballs and advertising ... this has it all (the Capital Plastic holder that holds all CC Morgans is too big and expensive to fill).
Great purchase, @Cladiator !
I live about 20 minutes from the shop, so a substantial portion of my PCGS Carson City dollars (SLD->Trade->Morgan) collection has been purchased there.
When I go in to the shop, I also always check out their box of CC Morgan culls. Imagine: a box of culls that are all CC Morgans! I have picked a few of those as well, and even use one as a pocket piece.
I hope you had a great time!

I have two low grade CC Morgans as well as some Liberty Seated coinage as.
I especially enjoyed seeing these scarce and rare date CC Seated Coins! All of the coins have a nice appearance, which is especially difficult to find for these issues.
The 1878-cc half is exceptional! Also very people have a 72-cc quarter with a a full liberty and nice surfaces.
The 1871-cc half is totally original looking.
The 1870-cc dollar is sharply detailed.

It took me a few years to track one of these down in 1989. That's when this was extremely undervalued.

Nope, not yet unfortunately. My responsibilities in town have kept me busy during their business hours so far. Perhaps tomorrow...

Helluva coin! I cannot keep DMPLs because they don't look very nice to me. I guess the answer is to get a 66 or better. Congrats.

Well, that was worth waiting for.
Thanks
This coin was mine until last year.
1871-cc $1 ANACs-G4 Mintage 1371. Per Osburn and Cushing about 100 exist.
It straight graded despite the scratch. I guess because of being G4 and a key.
A well worn CC dime with mintmark below bow variety

Lafayette Grading Set
A beautiful 1870-cc Half! Rarely found this nice, Much rarer than the 1870-cc dollar, even though it has a considerably higher mintage.
