FUN Show semi-report

So I glanced through many of the previous FUN show reports and will try not to double or triple up on stuff to much.

Wednesday during setup needed to go and get lights from Wizzard(?). I was told that one could pre-order lights but it was a separate form. So I got lights for my dealer friend. Two of the 3 bulbs did not work. Back for new bulbs. Then we noticed an extreme difference in the bulb light. To shorten it up after four trips, he wound up with one 100W and two LED 1600 lumen. However, there were also bulbs we returned - 43W (yes 43W incandescent), 60W and LED 400 lumen with a yellow tint.

As I walked around I could see the dim bulbs and the yellowish ones along side the brighter 100W or 1600 lumen LED.

It used to be the 100W was a semi-standard for the show but some 75W or even 60W would show up. With the change to LED bulbs happening I believe the show coordinators need to at least somewhat standardize the show bulbs. I believe this would be good for customers and dealers.

Wednesday (and Thursday) was a sticky day (not nice weather for January). Early morning walked over to Walgreens to get water. It is a 10 to 12 minute walk each way. By the time I got back the T-shirt was a little damp. So took a second quick shower before heading out because who wants to start out a little sticky.

Wednesday setup was also not to pleasant as they have the large garage style door open for loading/unloading as normal and with the sticky weather that is they way the convention room became. Then they turned on the large fans on one of the posts. If your table was in the path of one of these it was quite the breeze and would blow paper off the table and table clothes would flap like a flag. But I guess better than stagnant and sticky.

Wednesday was busy for my friend's table. Doing both looking/buying and selling. Did not set anything out that day.

Later Wednesday I hopped around to a few tables and found a potential coin for my current project. Had a friend who knows the stuff much better than I take a look and said it was good. So went back and got it. That is number 7 out of 13. There is also one candidate in the auction. So if not blown out, have a shot at number 8.

Thursday - Yes! the normal convention temperatures were back. This was the busiest day for my friend's table that I can remember. He was looking/buying from dealers and collectors somewhat constantly. Additionally there seemed to be a steady flow of people looking at inventory, some buying then and others coming back. Additionally dealers were doing the same. There also seemed to be a few more people asking questions about coins, grading or stickers than normal.

Late Thursday we made it up to the PCGS gathering. For those who keep track of the sample slabs this is the one they handed out.

Friday - Definitely slower at friend's table but still decent flow of business until later in the day when it slowed.

Saturday - Slow but packing up early afternoon for flights to go home.

I never made it around to all the tables as I normally do, that is at least glancing at them to see what it there. I did some jumping around to tables. At Sheridan Downey table I saw him sitting in the background and @lkeigwin up front doing all the work. Or so it seemed. I meant to get back over there and look at the bust halves closer but never found the time. Ugh. Maybe I will get started on those again one of these days. Still have the one 13 coin (at least for now) set I am working on though. Oh and I did get another coin for a long ago finished set (finished years ago). It is kind of a sideways upgrade. Not anything I was thinking of doing just happened.

Note - I do know of 3 confirmed cases of covid from the show. So there is probably most definitely more. It is a part of life today.

    @ricko "Seems you did ok...."

    I want to be clear that I do not have anything to do with coin business, I just help a friend (of about 20 years). We try to keep one person at the table at all times. He also has another dealer who shares the back table so it usually works out.

    Now I did get one for my in work mini-set and another is in the auction. Just days/hours to go. Auctions are kind of fun, well when there is something for you :) . Will see if I get two in one show for the mini-set. :)
