This year was pretty slow for me in terms of buying cards, but I did manage to pick up a big card that I had my eye on for some time (2018 Topps Update Acuna White Jersey with Bat). Another goal was to add the 1996 Topps Kobe RC base card. There are over 4K graded PSA 10's (and that number continues to grow) so there's certainly no shortage of these. Trying to find a centered copy is the real challenge, however. When Kobe passed suddenly in January of 2020, this card was at $200 in a PSA 10. During the pandemic, this card hit over 5K. Today, you can pick it up for around $800-900. And if you wait another month, I'm sure it'll be even less lol.

hey JakeR2234,
Nice rack...
hey paulb71,
Oh yeah...
This pickup is easily my best sports card purchase since I began collecting again in the early 1980s (earlier growing up in the 1960s). I won this card as a PSA-9 in a Heritage Auction in February 2022...and rolled the dice on a review although I was fairly confident it would bump to a PSA-10. It appeared exceptional for the assigned grade. Here it is in a PSA-9 holder...and now in a PSA-10 holder.
Centering is perfect...inks align perfectly (registration), cut is clean (no rough cut w/associated chipping), colors are very, very bold, and the corners are razor sharp and pointy.
I pinballed my way through 2022, grabbing a little of this and a little of that. I did, however, put a major dent in my OPC Gretzky run. Here are a few that made me smile:
And this year I completed a mostly raw Yastrzemski run of centered beauties. Here is one that I snagged along the way. It’s obviously not raw, but it has greatness written all over it. The teeniest, tiniest, microscopic wrinkle about a millimeter in length and barely detectable by the human eye is the reason for the grade, and you’d never find it even if I told you it was on the backside.

I may have overpaid a bit but I wanted a clean, nicely centered copy of Big Papi's first Red Sox Chrome Refractor. It's now at PSA for grading. These refractors just don't come up for sale very often, let alone at auction.
@above - Love those Gretzky's - early 80's OPC's are the best.
These are the ones that stand out for me
hey Kid4hof03,
Oh Yeah....
I have to admit, I am not seeing anything obvious on the 81 and 82 OPC Gretzky's to knock them down to 6's.
This is another case of graders interpreting OPC “rough cut” as card wear. The blade that cut each of these cards produced some minor chipping on the back of each card. Corners are razor sharp (by OPC standards), surfaces are unblemished, and centering, especially on the 1982, is amazing. The presentation of each card is most certainly above that which we would expect of average 6s. I’m extremely happy with them.

Only 3 total graded, this is highest.
This was right at the end of the year but my favorite. From Mac's All Star MVP year.

It’s always nice looking back and 2022 was a very good year for small town girls and soft summer nights, not to mention some truly wonderful Mickey Mantle pickups…
…some solid pickups for my 1946 Propagandas Montiel set, led by a stunning Christy Mathewson…
…and last, but certainly not least, a nice Bambino!
Happy New Year 🥳🎆🎊🎈🥳 , CU!

I was able to get a upgrade on this from a 3 to a 5. My favorite pickup of the year.

Kind of a slow year, but I was quite happy with these…
DId some Yogi Berra diggin' this year......
Wow! I think I could comment on each individual post in this thread. Lots of great cards and other items picked up this year. This is one of my favorite posts of the year....its always good to look back on the year and pick out a highlight or two. My favorite acquisition of the year was this card....
I remember being 13 and opening a ton of 1991 donruss in search of ANY elite card, really. However, as a huge Cubs fan, I always wanted to either pull or own this card. It really was the first famous "insert cards". Back in 1991/1992, there wasn't the internet, I didn't even know anyone that even pulled an 1991 elite card, so it was somewhat a legend for me. Over the past couple of years, I've been searching for one in PSA9 that was high end with a really nice signature. It popped up on EBAY and well, it just had my name on it.
I guess my fave pick-up for this year was a 620 sports card collection. Mix of baseball , football , hockey and a couple of basketball . payed approx between $140-170 for the lot.

It's the singer not the song - Peter Townshend (1972)
This can't really compete, but I was pleased to be the only one (apparently) to notice that this Eloy Jimenez card that was being listed on eBay by a prominent seller was an Independence Day card numbered to 76 and not a base set card, so I got it for $12.55 plus shipping (though I then had to spend $5.50 to mail it to PSA so they could correct their error and relabel it). As of now, PSA 9 is pop. 4 and only three PSA 10s are out there.
My greater accomplishment, though, was restarting the 1962 F/G/VG/VG-EX set I began 30+ years ago and adding around 300 cards, getting it up to 451 out of 598.
My goal for 2022 was to get the rookie cards of my father’s favorite player from each sport. I was able to add 3 of them just missing a 51 Bowman Mays, but hopefully that will come soon.
Those 1973's are beautiful!
Got this at an LCS clearance sale for $2 - bubble included.
Kiss me twice.....let's party.
^ Thanks @Kid4hof03 !

Also got this from a UK eBay seller for the price of a Walmart blaster box. It’s a 1952 NBA trophy watch awarded to HOF Dick McGuire with Knicks engraving on back.

Some of my favorite acquisitions this year
Picked up some nice stuff for the Cubs/Bears PC in 2022. Nothing crazy valuable, but my favorites.
Looking back at 2022, I didn’t buy that many cards, but these are some I enjoyed picking up in 2022…
Happy new year!

hey hamilton888,
Nice racks...
Wow those are some amazing Yogis - congrats. Really sharp cards.
Started getting some cards outside the standard Topps sets in the 50's and 60's. On the Banks I had the Topps but added the OPC and Venezuelas this year. Getting a '68 3D was scratching a dream card off my list.
So hard to have a high value card get an increased grade. Congratulations!!!!!!!!
Love the Boggs in Sandburg 83 rack!

Just got back into the hobby recently after a few year hiatus...so not too many additions to the collection to choose from. This is my favorite 2022 addition though.

hey BigDaddyBowman,
That's Cool...
I would say these are my top 4 pickups of 2022. I hope I can be as lucky in 2023
Not the most I spent on a card in 2022, not the coolest looking photo but still my favorite that I got in my grubby hands last year. Love it.
I got very into signed Star this year. Here are some of my favorites:
Wow Bobby! That's an incredible year.
What a cool idea. Great cards too.
That is a very nice looking Clemente.
