Here is a vid page for the Oil's game last night. Watch the superstar McDavid on a breakaway, goalie has no chance as he chooses where to put the puck. Also watch McDavid set up Hyman for a goal...........
Alas he was upset this year at the AS skills comp. Here is what the winner had to say:
"Connor [McDavid] is definitely still the fastest player in the world, in the game," Kyrou said after upsetting McDavid, the Edmonton Oilers center and three-time champion, at T-Mobile Arena on Friday.
Guys like Howe, Rocket and #4 only cared about winning Lord Stanley.
I suggest you get that message to Connor McMuffin.
Point taken but it is just a matter of time until superstar C McD wins it all multiple times.................... Oil has momentum. It is time. And it will be, thus sayeth I.
@Goldenage - Superstar Connor McDavid's 15 times he did the impossible. Really shows just how amazing this guy is, puts the 2 bobby's (orr and hull) in their place in terms of talent, well they played decades ago and that is what they were then. Now the talent is so high it takes amazing one in a century talent to be McDavid, clearly suprasses the old timers who never scored as much as McD is headed to this year.
The Oil is 8-2 in their last 10, led by Captain McDavid.
Feb 2, 2023 EDMONTON
Edmonton Oilers mega star Connor McDavid is scoring at a historic rate. With the NHL All-Star break upon us, we relive every single incredible McDavid goal of the 2022-23 season...so far.
Takes ones breath away to watch this amazing scoring feast.
I saw Gretzky and Lemieux play. I still watch Crosby as much as I can. McDavid is in my opinion the best player I have ever seen in the last 20 years or more.
Have a look, CMcD scores two, 3 points total, now has 800 points for his career. Hmm.......... Better than your friends Hull and Orr, in fact CMcD is the 5th fastest to 800 points behind Wayne Gretzky (352 games), Mario Lemieux (410), Mike Bossy (525), and Peter Stastny (531), and he is only now getting the momentum for his SUPERSTAR career, came on later than Gretz and Lemieux bc he was trying to be a team player his first few years and passing to set up team-mates rather than focus on scoring. And this, in a time where defense is much more tight making it less scoring overall than when Gretz and Lemieux played. The more I see out of CMcD, the more i realize he is one of the 3 elite scorers of all time in the NHL.
So McD put on a clinic to Crosby, 2 goals, 2 assists. Since you are counting @Goldenage, thaz 45 goals and 109 points in 59 games. Still in play for a 150 point season. Who is close this year. Oh, it is Draisaitl at 35/87. Can we spell Gretzky-Kurri? Drais would be the leader for the Hart trophy if it wasn't for McD...................
Clearly McD is showing he is the GOHG, and likely top 3 of all time............ But hey, he is NOT THAT GOOD.

You put Matthews and Bergeron in 1950s skates using 1950s sticks and they are Frank Mahovlich and Henri Richard.
Players aren’t better. Equipment is.
It’s just something you don’t understand.
Carey Price isn’t better than Roy.
Roy isn’t better than Dryden.
Dryden isn’t better than Plante.
And the two they now have are better than those four.? 😂😂😂
I can agree with you here. Todays players are not better. they may be a little stronger/faster, but that is simply because of better training/nutrition. If players from the 20's, 40's, 60's etc. were born now, they would be just as strong/fast as current players. Todays athletes train year-round. It is pretty common knowledge that Lebraon James spends over 1MM a year on his nutrition/fitness. that was not the case back in the 60's when Orr played.
I think that a generational talent like Orr (or Gretzky, Lemieux etc) would be just as generational today if given the same equipment/training. I have no reason to believe Orr wouldnt be the fastest player on the Ice today.
I think some people look at it almost through an evolutionary lens. well, even if you believe in evolution, 50 or 100 years is not nearly enough time to change the human physique to make players today different from their predecessors from 50 years ago
It isn't about evolution, it is more about having more people in the world to draw from. Twice as many people, twice as many athletic freaks...and that is independent of science, training, and nutrition.
The more people the more athletic freak combinations can occur...more six foot four males who are also fast, coordinated, and skilled.
Then when you add that you draw from other countries that weren't being drawn from before it increases the talent pool even more.
This is all independent of nutrition etc. So while it is true that someone who played a sport in 1960 would also benefit from the same nutrition and training that an athlete today benefits from, they still didn't have to compete against more players similar in their size and elite abilities that are now around simply because there are more people in the world to produce such athletic freaks.
It does not mean that someone like Howe, Orr, Jim Brown, Chamberlain, Ruth would be average players today. It does mean that their statistical dominance would change. Wilt scoring 50 a game for an entire season simply wouldn't happen going against a player every night that is his size or bigger(and as skilled or closer in skill/height combination).
Same for Ruth and that's been discussed numerous times. Ruth may still have been a league leader in home runs, but with the league filled with more human specimens closer to his ability and physical attributes, being the home run champ every year would be much harder and the ability to out homer every team would simply NOT happen.
Ruth is still the legend with no peer though . I'll take a Ruth card any day.
The notion that size does not matter is ridiculous and flat out wrong. Sure, there will be outliers like Spud Webb or Altuve who are small but possess other elite physical attributes that overcome their shorter size and muscle mass, but...
If size did not matter, then the average height in professional sports would be five foot nine just like it is for the general population in the US. But the average height in all the pro sports is far higher than five foot nine, even in baseball where the 'size does not matter' mantra is often applied incorrectly.

In this athletic world today, size only matters if the big person has the skills as well. One has to be talented first, then size can play a factor in some sports. Not all sports tho'.

Best, SH
The word for a big guy with no talent back in the day was a "stiff". Some of those stiffs got pretty far on size alone. You are correct, that is not enough now. Too much competition. You need more.
Now, with more people in the talent pool, the more combinations of bigger AND talented human specimens that are produced.

callig someone a "stiff" means different things in different contexts, but I had actually forgotten how commonly this was used in sports. Thanks or the trip down memory lane.

That was a tremendous pass to setup McDavid for the goal, too. Right between the wickets.
Hey @Goldenage - look who won the NHL's faster skater competition 3 times, the only triple crowner ever:

Yup, superstar Connor McDavid..........................

I see that today’s hockey fan gets excited about frivolous competitions.
Please post to let me know when he wins at Wii Golf and Super Smash brothers brawl too. Thanks
This is the ONLY competition that matters.😊

Superstar Connor McDavid has perfect round in the accuracy contest........ Watch it here:

McDavid is at #163 on the all time single season point shares list.
He’s good offensively but below average defensively.
He’s good, but others the past 20 years have been better.
Check the list below for better understanding of which players helped their teams better then McDavid has.

Hi @Goldenage, ye who is anti-McDavid, here is the report from last nite's Oil game:

Good on ya Connor.
Keep dreaming.............
Fixed it for ya:
99 was never 11th ON HIS OWN TEAM in plus minus during his prime.
All those points and McMuffin is 11th on the Oilers in plus minus.
The kid is a defensive liability.
Once you understand two way hockey you’ll understand that he’s good, but not that good.
Oilers have no shot ever at the Cup with his way of playing. Never.
Btw.
For others reading this thread.
Muffins are nice and soft, like Connors defense.
Connor McMuffin needs to play the game the way Bobby and Gordie did.
OK grandpa, lets get you to bed now.
Kingmorgandollars alt. Lol
You can tell by his positive transactions in his sig line.
Lol
What are the chances of two different coin guys commenting on an Oilers thread ? 😉
Hi 👋 🤴 king
Hope you are well
Oilers thread? Title of thread is Connor McDavid is not that good.......... So a thread about CMcD who players for the Oilers.
BTW, here is the title of the espn article on last nites game:
"McDavid scores twice, Oilers blast reeling Crosby, Pens 7-2"
