Proof Like Seated Coins

I am trying to find out if PCGS recognizes proof like coins in the Seated series. I can't seem to find anything recent about this topic. If they do, is it only on MS coins and does anyone think it is something worth having noted? I know it is popular with Morgan dollars but keep getting stuck with past discussions on Morgan's. Any info welcome.

They do in the Half Dollar series.

Between type 3 & 4 SLDs, there are currently 4 total PL graded coins (https://www.pcgs.com/pop/detail/liberty-seated-dollar-1836-1873/29?ccid=0&t=3&p=MS). Here is one of them: https://www.pcgs.com/coinfacts/coin/1869-1-pl/86962

Although there has been a little inconsistency, they will currently only recognize MS coins as PL or DMPL.

    ...

In a cousin to the Seated Series, I'll be submitting this trade dollar at the Vegas PCGS show in a couple of weeks for reconsideration to attempt a MS-60 grade because it is 100% PL, video here if anyone is interested:) https://imgur.com/a/NWYWOAU

    Depends.

It certainly makes the coin easier to sell for a higher dollar amount, especially over the internet/auction. If you don't plan to sell or will only sell in hand then, if it is truly PL, anyone will be able to tell and you'll collect a premium regardless.

But, if you're keeping it, the coin is still the coin. Do it if it makes you happy and the grading fees/time don't bother you.

PCGS does recognize PL seated coins and you should be able to locate them on the PCGS population report. The designation should result in a significant premium in most cases.

They do recognize and attribute proof like designations to qualifying coins. It usually garners a significant premium upon sale as well. Cheers, RickO

Thanks for the feedback. Until now I have never been to the PCGS population pages. I have always used the Heritage shortcut. I also have never considered proof-like seated coins until now. Had no idea they were so rare.
It is unfortunate for me that I have a harder time recognizing and grading proof and proof like coins from pictures than any single other attribute. By dumb luck I won a Seated Dime with proof like characteristics. will have to consider options I guess.

It's extremely difficult to come up with meaningful grade evaluations for PL and Proof coins from images. With respect to Proofs, in particular, the primary reason is that hairlines are frequently the major factor impacting the grade and they can be largely undetectable in images.
