Do you think this 1843 Large Cent will straight grade?

I am on the fence with this one. It is the N-17 variety,,which is R6. The seller knows this as well. The coin looks uncleaned to me but has a pretty heavy hit at star 12. The total Pop. for this variety is 4 at PCGS. I grade it VF30,,,but that hit at star 12 makes me think it's possibly a details coin. All opinions are welcomed. I would hate to drop a few $$$ on a details coin!

if it were mine and i had some others to send along, it would be on it's way to the plastic factory.
i don't think it matters too much but that "hit" could be a planchet flaw.
Agree w Lance re the hit, but from the image, the coin appears to be cleaned to me. That said, I've seen plenty of coins with 'issues' in first world slabs. They are usually older than this one, though.

Is the obverse anomaly an impression or is it raised?

I also think it’s a planchet flaw, and believe that it will straight grade.

Should straight grade as far worse does on large cents.
Looks like it should grade, the hit you speak of looks like a strike through to me.
I think it will straight grade, since the depression by the star appears to be a planchet flaw... no damage to the star or the rim marking. Cheers, RickO
After further thought, I think the variety attribution is more important than the grade.
The coin is what it is; anyone needing that variety will likely buy it whether it straight grades or not, as the N17 designation is critical factor.
This will grade no problem in my opinion.
Just my 2 cents... it's an R6 coin! That, and I think whatever that is at star 12 (planchet flaw or struck through??) it's "as struck" so IMHO shouldn't affect a straight grade... I've been wrong before but I'd be inclined to send her in. Best of luck!

Yes
The early copper grading can be quite strict. Though it looks ef to me they'd probably grade it vf, no problem.
