For now, probably keep them unopened, at least the 70s packs, but you never know!

My package was delivered this morning. It was stressful last couple of hours when I saw that someone had "Signed" for it and the package was "Delivered, Left with individual" even though nobody was home. I had USPS to send me a picture of the signature and it was definitely a forgery. Asked the wife to swing by home to see if anything was there and, luckily, the package was left between the screen door and my front door. What a relief.

I'm assuming the mailman signed for it himself and left it. I have no relationship with him so I'm very surprised he did this. Has anyone else ever had this happen? My bill for this break came to $1500 so to say I was worried was an understatement.

  • For those knowledgeable about the ordering of the cards it would be interesting to know if there are any of the key rookies based on the top and bottom cards for those packs posted

I should have ordered bigger items. There will hardly be any packing peanuts in that small box. :(

    2nd series. All 72 OPC boxes are either 1st (1-253) or 2nd series (264-525).

My box arrived safely and got my first look this morning….

I thought everything was expertly packed… and makes a really nice presentation of unwrapped material.

I’m very pleased (especially since I did not know what to expect).

Question folks - in this day and age of folks doubting raw packs being authentic - for those that keep them unopened, do you have PSA slab them?

In 10 years, let’s say you decide to sell a 72 OPC - saying , well it came from Steve’s CU break probably has no validity.

    Thoughts?

Re the Yzerman card in back…was that sticky provided by BBCE team or did you add that?

  • balco758balco758 Posts: 1,408 ✭✭✭✭✭

Mine arrived. I got a 2nd year Mollie on front of a 79 pack.

I also got a tease of a header card on the 78 cello. A Rookie 4 window beauty, but not the Mollie.

    Thx again Tim.

For what it's worth, lately I've been taking a video any time I unbox packs from BBCE or Fritsch. Not perfect but better than nothing. Wish I had done it over the years but I am mostly collecting for me anyway.

I agree. There will come “a day” - through reducing my collection, or nature (hopefully a solid 25 years from now :) ) - that they will most likely be sold.

    I bought 9 1983 FB wax packs...pulled 2 Marcus Allens.
I bought 4 1981 FB cellos...pulled 2 Montanas (both "Montana" Cellos had the same guy on the front)

probably 20 other HOFers total as well. Very pleased.

Which guy was on top? Not assuming a pattern, just curious.

I ripped my two 78 cello's. Nothing earth shattering - a nice Rose and a decent Morgan.
I ripped my 10 packs of 78 hockey. That was fun and brought back a lot of great memories. I was hoping to replace the Bossy rookie I opened 44 years ago...but it did not happen. A lot of HOF'ers and a great looking Dryden and LaFleur.
I also opened my 3 82 football cello's. I did get a nice looking R Lott but really nothing else.

I will open the 1980 super cello's later and post some pictures.

umm.. nope :( I should sell it on ebay with no returns allowed.. heh heh heh

Unfortunately, the Tommy John is the 2nd card in from back. Completely gum soaked suckery. 3/4ths of the back feels and looks like a warted bumpy shiny booobulah. The pic here doesn't give justice to the suckery of the card. Tommy deserves better.

For me, who knows you and have dealt with you, the back story with that provenance is sufficient, but in general, grading the packs is the way to go. I am submitting 2 of my 3 72 OPC packs. My 83 OPC pack from the tape intact box also has Brett on top and is super clean, so I may sub that one once prices come back down to $25 again.

Too bad. It looks perfect until you zoom in and see the gun soak up even on the front. PSA should never hire me!!!!

I'd consider myself one of the biggest doubters of ungraded packs on eBay. I have spent nearly a decade trying (and failing miserably) to persuade people to stop wasting their money on fool's gold.

    With that said...

For 10+ years I have purchased packs mainly via CU's pack break group (nearly all breaks were indirectly through BBCE), Through BBCE directly, or through Frisch and none of my packs have been graded thus far. This is how I generally preferred it in the past as I did not like to spend money on grading as I always thought I could instead buy more cards. This was a definite mistake on my part as now I have to get them graded so if I ever decide to sell them it would alleviate any concerns from the buyer.

The odd thing is I bought 12 1976 rack packs on eBay about 8 years ago for the ridiculously low price of $175. BBCE authenticated them all. I recently took pictures of 6 1980-81 Topps Basketball packs I paid like $80 total for 10+ years ago and had my doubts they were authentic and I was able to see that there was a Bird rookie with Cartwright on the back of a pack which makes me think they have not been tampered with.
